Re: the curiosities of upper Salmon River

And then there's this: https://wyeastblog.org/2010/05/25/stop-salting-the-palmer-glacier/ That post is nine years old now but I would assume nothing has changed. The Oregonian eventually did weigh in too (https://www.oregonlive.com/opinion/2014/05/saltng_of_mt_hood_glacier_is_b.html), but the pract...

That loop is miserable in September. Much more fun when there's some snow to allow easier travel from the top of Mississippi back to the lodge. June, July, even into August most years.
Wait, you don't like frozen scree?

Re: The GoalTech Mt Hood High Route - 360 Loop

Wow, what a fantastic report - thanks so much for all the effort! I really appreciate the writing, and the attention to detail. I've done a few of the off trail bits, but never thought of connecting them all. I guess I've got a project for next summer :)

Re: Thru Hiking the Enchantments (with larches) - Sept. 28-30

We spend the night in a sort of creepy Airbnb in Wenatchee—the bottom of some dude’s swanky house Probably not what you were expecting someone to comment on, but whatever, why was this "sort of creepy?" Ha! You know, I'm not sure exactly. It might just be me, but I find that Airbnb works most comfo...

Re: Herman CK to Cedar Swamp Oct 2018

you're talking post fire? that trail was more difficult than average trail before the fire Yea, post fire. I was on a few of the trail crews working to rebuild stuff up there, and, because of time constraints, we more or less just stopped at the Deadwood junction. I walked along the length of Nick ...

Nick Eaton Ridge will also be interesting
I'm sure you'll have no trouble with this, but route finding along Nick Eaton - especially between Deadwood and the Plateau Cutoff - is very interesting (as in: the trail doesn't always exist).

Re: WA PCT, Sect. J: The Alpine Lakes!

Awesome report Robin! Both the pics and the words were fantastic. It was so fun to see what it looks like with good weather and no smoke. It's kind of crazy that we didn't see Mt Rainier for the entire hike, when it's right there. Thanks so much, Mike! It looks like you had a beautiful trip all the...

Re: Thru Hiking the Enchantments (with larches) - Sept. 28-30

Thanks again, all! I really appreciate the kind words. That’s an area I have yet to get to. Tried to get a permit once. Need to get there. Given what you're capable of, a thru hike of the thing - or just the out and back up Aasgard and into the core - should be more than possible in a day, if / when...

Re: Thru Hiking the Enchantments (with larches) - Sept. 28-30

Thanks everyone! Yea: I think going up over Aasgard, rambling around the core, then going back down Aasgard would probably be a somewhat more scenic trip. But I like it both ways, and we had a couple people with us who weren't all that comfortable with down-scrambling, so we took the easy way out. Y...

Thru Hiking the Enchantments (with larches) - Sept. 28-30

PrusikPass.jpg Opening picture: Perfection Lake from just below Prusik Pass So I’ve somehow weaseled my way into backpacking in the Enchantments every year for the last four. This time, we decided to thru hike the thing, starting at Stuart TH, heading up Aasgard, then taking the comparatively smoot...
