Re: Up High in the Sierra, July 2018

Thanks so much everyone - for the kind responses, and (maybe more amazingly) for just reading the damn thing! FWIW, when I was thinking of doing Roper's Sierra High Route I wondered if you could cut over to Lamarck Col from George Lake to avoid the road walk and, on Roper's route, much of the JMT se...

Can you give an approximate mileage for the trip?
Not including some wandering (the side trips up to Glacier Gap and High Pass), right around a hundred miles. And you should definitely go! Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help as you plan :)

Up High in the Sierra, July 2018

So this one’s both a little old and a little far from Oregon, but, given how much time we’re all spending indoors these days… Back in summer 2018, I had a week to spend in the Sierra, while Krista was doing a big section of the PCT from Yosemite to Tahoe. But I didn’t want to deal with a shuttle or ...

I love it down there! We went in 2015 for the JMT, and have been at least once every couple years since. Thanks for the lovely reminder!

Re: Seattle to Denali by van in 1997

Thanks for the great report! I've somehow never really been to Alaska, or even outside of the major cities in Canada. Maybe someday soon. Seems like there's so much to see up there that I don't even really know where to start. This is written in RobinB style, but in my defense, it does cover 21 days...

Re: Around Glacier Peak (July 27 - Aug. 3), 1: The Southern Half

I have one friend here in Portland who did a version of that route decades ago. Also pretty sure I've read a trip report of doing it in spring, with skis. Try searching on nwhikers.net Thanks for the suggestion - for whatever reason I always forget about that site, despite the TRs there generally f...

Re: Heretofore unseen thanks for this site

What a fantastic post - thank you so so much, and happy birthday! My pops is just around the corner from 70; I like to imagine that, in a decade, he'll still be out as much as you are (and maybe more to the point, that we'll still be out together).

Thanks again. What a lovely thing to read.

Re: Around Glacier Peak (July 27 - Aug. 3), 1: The Southern Half

Thanks a million! Great gift, helping me revisit all my memories of those places. I have a few tips for others interested in this loop. I'll do the current ones first, then a report of how the trails compared in 1980 when I circumambulated GP. Thank you for the lovely set of replies! I really wish ...

Around Glacier Peak (July 27 - Aug. 3), 2: The Northern Half

This is the second of two entries about a loop I did (all the way!) around Glacier Peak this past summer. For detailed route information, see my first post ( here ). The first post covered the southern half of the route, from the Chiwawa River to the Napeequa, from the Napeequa to the White River an...
