Re: Mt Mitchell and Black Hole Falls

ask yourself who this most effectively blocks, a recreationalist (i almost never bring my chainsaw along for weekend/day hike trips), or a forester. Right, but it seems like a pointless poke-your-finger-in-the-other-guys-eye thing no matter how you look at it. For legal protection, foresters would ...

Re: Mt Mitchell and Black Hole Falls

About 0.2 miles after taking the sharp turn off S-1000 the road was blocked by a tree across the road. I have to wonder: Are the trees down the result of a spiteful land manager or a guerilla protestor to block access? You probably also noticed the tree felled across the start of the trail. It was ...

Re: Driving to Craggy Peak TH

Road 93 is paved the entire distance to the trail head except for a 1 mile section that starts soon after the intersection of roads 25 and 93. The last 0.3 miles on a gravel road at the end of the pavement takes you to the trail head.

Driving to Craggy Peak TH

Does anybody have any information about the quality of the roads that lead to the Craggy Peak #3 trail head on the southern edge of the Dark Divide in WA? This GPNF page indicates driving on road 93 from the Muddy River bridge then a half mile on road 9327. I have no information about road suitabili...

BTW: If anybody gets to Mt Mitchell in a last ditch effort to enjoy the peak, please pick up my black/gold "College of Idaho" shorts.
Shorts retrieved thanks to OH'ers Stephen and Judy. Thanks again.

my wheels would spin while going uphill on dirt roads.
Yes, me too. That's an important point that I failed to mention. And gravelly roads make the problem worse.

Re: Grassy Knoll – Alway Trail, and a bike ride back.

I've been doing bike then hike trips over the past few years. I've found it really saves time and human wear and tear to gain longer range. For me, riding uphill is no faster than walking uphill but downhill is where the payoff is realized. The bonus is the refreshing wind in my face on my returns. ...

Re: Mt. Mitchell via Sugarloaf - Help save it from DNR clearcutting!

This is also the topic of: https://www.oregonhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29785 The land managers have the opinion that, since the trail is unauthorized, it will not be considered in the harvesting plan. In other words, they plan to destroy the trail that passes through the clear cut. That's...

BTW: If anybody gets to Mt Mitchell in a last ditch effort to enjoy the peak, please pick up my black/gold "College of Idaho" shorts. I changed my pants at the top and either forgot to pack my shorts or dropped them near the top. There are paper maps in the pocket with my name on them (John Speth). ...

Re: Mt. Mitchell "back door" trail may be obliterated

I exchanged emails with Mr. Stephen Kropp from the Center for Responsible Forestry. He/they are advocating for limiting the Serenity Now timber sale that is very close to Mt Mitchell. See https://www.c4rf.org/serenity-now. Stephen confirmed to me that WA DNR deems the trail unofficial and not subjec...
