Thank you TKO crews for all the amazing trail work! And thank you for posting good news and sharing how so many folks are enjoying this trail! It's a tonic.

Devil's Peak Still Creek (July 16) & Paradise Park Tr (July 30) 2023

The trailheads for these two hikes are each just off Hwy 26 a bit - an easy hour drive or so from my Portland home that make for quick getaways. Devil's Peak from Still Creek TH With a 90°+F forecast for Portland I wanted a workout that ended before the afternoon heat took hold. Relatively short but...

Lower Archer Falls to Quiver Point July 2, 2023

Starting from the St. Cloud Trailhead I ignored all the FG's warnings regarding having long pants and loppers for this trail. True to the description, this trail is widely overgrown. Just after crossing Hwy 14 and starting in there's a new sign: Archer Falls .5 mile. There's a nice, new bridge over ...

Goat Rocks Wilderness - Oct 17-18

goatrocks.jpg An overnighter in Goat Rocks Wilderness - up #95-86 and back down #86-96 before the endless summer actually did. The Goat Rocks fire had closed the nw portion of the wilderness, but the rest was open and the haze slowly cleared as I drove on FR21 then 2150- finally opting for the Berr...

Re: Bluegrass Ridge Trail Clearing, 7/8/21

MHNF has (in the past) taken a fairly extreme position on bridges in wilderness for a variety of reasons, but fact is, they are routinely built and maintained in wilderness areas all over the country (and even a few within MHNF) Splintercat: I'm glad to hear MHNF is in your opinion taking an extrem...

Re: Mount Hood Meadows Hiking trails

Some of those Meadows ski runs have some of the best flower shows around. Not sure if the resort does anything specially different, but sometimes other ski areas runs are pure blight in the summer. Anyway, good on them for adding these hiking routes.

Re: Yocum Ridge -- 07/04/21

Yocum Ridge is one of my favorites and there's something magical about the last mile or so. A long dayhike to be sure - too long for an older mortal like me, so I did it as an overnighter last time. Doesn't sound like TH was slammed either - maybe last year's crush is starting to abate? (I doubt it....

Beargrass pollen. At home, three bucket rinses came out yellow.
Now we have a real clue about your wardrobe that you dutifully described before. That beargrass pollen has medicinal properties, I hear.

Isn't anyone else going to head out and take another pic of the paradise loop sign? We need updates.

Re: Timberline Lodge to Paradise Park, 6/23/21

Hey Dylan - thanks for your timely report - especially with the super useful snow depth info. It is a curious thing about all the snow remaining compared to other years. I'm not an expert but part of the answer may be how or when the white stuff fell over the winter season. If the snow fell in large...
