Re: House passes the EXPLORE act
This is the next prong of development from the war that was lost when FLREA passed. Prior to that you had 40 years of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Act, which did not bring in a ton of revenue, but did bring in some and left a lot to appropriations. But let's run government like a busi...

Re: An expensive hike to Tunnel Falls - 2023-12-28
sorry to hear. As one other point of reference aside from costing the manufacturer less, the ubiquity of cell phones+coverage (and majority of drivers not being in remote/cell free areas), is the MPG tests. The weight of a full size spare, jack, etc is absolutely enough to affect MPG by .5 or .25 ov...

Recreational Immunity
https://yachatsnews.com/coastal-cities-scrambling-to-examine-or-close-their-local-trails-following-oregon-appeals-court-decision-in-newport-case/ Interesting case from Newport with the potential to affect a lot of recreation around urban areas. (Unlikely to impact stuff in wilderness or in state par...

Re: Three Sisters Aug 10, 2023
nice report, been too long since I was in 3 Sisters (before the permit years). were the FS volunteers or actual rangers, and were they on the trail or basically at TH's? It's amazing the resources they've heralded for permit enforcement despite no new revenue, yet were feckless to do anything about ...

Re: Mt. Adams Yurts Proposed
Skiers getting towed a decent distance is not really a huge deal-seems like it could be dependent on the snow-line. Parking at a snopark, then shuttling with snowmobiles and trailer to snowline, and departing from there, not necessarily a fixed 13 miles no matter what. And yes there are long tows el...

Re: Mt. Adams Yurts Proposed
also speculating on details. You could tow a yurt in, erect it on the trailer, and have temporary supports under the areas that are not on the trailer. As snow fills in, this becomes a moot point. To that end, I think they are trying to say they are are not building any platform for it like the pict...

Mt. Adams Yurts Proposed
edit: they extended their deadline to July 21st after I pointed out to them if they can talk about #worldchocolateday and snacks on their Facebook, they can certainly post this. Then they posted it and some people felt only 2 days to comment was ridiculous, as if you're not in this undetermined ema...

Re: Soda Peaks Lake
need to get back here too, been too long! As a beer photographer I'm keen to any cans I see, what can I say  and campside snow for beer chillin is always feels kinda special compared to pulling something from a fridge. Seems like a good one to bring a pack raft for the lake, esp if coming in on...

Re: America The Beautiful Pass
FWIW at most trailheads only you very likely won't get a ticket for not displaying a pass. Exceptions I can think of are places like the Lewis River Corridor or Dog Mountain and some others that have put in additional levels of permitting. The FS is bared from charging for parking under FLREA, but i...
