Re: Mt Mitchell and Black Hole Falls

love the TR. were all the trees cut with a chainsaw? i'd err towards ahole land manager private land owner in the area before guerrilla protestor. the level of effort to fell a tree as such vs the thought that you'd actually block people who operate chainsaws all day.. ask yourself who this most eff...

Re: Timberline Lodge to Paradise Park, 6/23/21

great TR. thanks for sharing. 14 years in portland, campouts atop barrett spur, multiple hood climbs by multiple routes.. and i've still never been to Paradise Park. Maybe this will be the year.. DRM's relay of upper mountain melt w/ lower mountain snow from Rainier also held true at Adams. In...

Re: Mt. Mitchell "back door" trail may be obliterated

discovery pass dollars at work!

like clearcuts up against 3 sisters and mt jefferson wilderness boundaries, remember you the recreationalist are degrading the environment en masse!

thanks for passing along. what a great hike we lost with the road closure years ago.

Re: snow is melting on Mt Hood

I was on Adams last week and had scoped pictures of it.. In a decade+ of spring visits this is most peculiar. Down low 4000 to 8000ft is what you'd expect for this time of year, maybe a bit more really. But up higher the melt was much further along. Lunch counter has ample melted areas. The south fa...

Re: Lewis River Recreation Area Reservation System Announced

It would appear that is the case. Looking on rec . gov you can see each of the individual parking lots listed. What a joke. How does rec.gov determine their fees for doing the same crap over and over and over again. Why is a parking pass $2, a reservation for MSHI group $6, and cost for a day hiking...

Re: Red Mountain

nice pics, have wondered about winter/snowy ventures up there. Wish there was a little more soft/flat grand up there for tenting but it's slim pickings for overnight unless you slept on the cat-walk. this was supposed to become a rental lookout. 2010 people restored it after wind storm damaged it in...

Re: Mt. St. Helens climbing permit changes

This was a conjecture offered as a possible explanation for policy change on MSH access. You'd think land managers would be relatively transparent with public access management decisions, given a FOIA request could get it anyways. But that's moot, the FS says: To better provide the public with oppor...

Re: Mt. St. Helens climbing permit changes

One impact does not make the other okay clearly, it's the total disproportionality and method of addressing it that renders it a moot point. Like trying to stop oil leaks on driveways from washing into sewers is a good thing, even if there's large oil spills that happen around the country. But imagi...
