Re: The Memaloose Hills and Social Media

markesc, do you just try to go to the worst/best hikes at 10am on saturday? I frankly don't understand how you feel like hiking is such a lost cause. So 'social media' took the friction out of obtaining information. No offensive but this site and others like it, outdoors project, etc greased those w...

Re: Breweries

Portland area: great notion (for whimsical flavors and hazy ipa, excellent food) wayfinder (for more traditional german styles, also pretty above average food) hair of the dog (largely heavy beers, long time portland fixture, unique pub food) modern times (progressive IPAs, stouts, and other offerin...

Re: Breweries

pfriem (hood river) solera (parkdale) de garde (tillamook) fort george, reach break (astoria) barley browns (baker city) crux, boneyard, ale apothecary (bend) claim 52 (eugene) ...there's tons more of course, but those are very good breweries. Sometimes places like terminal gravity in enterprise are...

Re: Visit the Central Cascades while you still can...

I don't know if the FS is actually issuing fines for not showing a NWFP when it says it is required, I haven't hung one for years and years now and haven't gotten a ticket. Presumably the FS regional/local offices don't really read legislation with a fine tooth comb or the FLREA in much depth? I mea...

Re: Visit the Central Cascades while you still can...

Relayed to me is that the supervisor of the Deschutes National Forest, John Allen will be retiring at the end of next month. So kind of him to direct the massive changes coming to the district he managed right before he leaves. Seems like a totally normal course of action for someone who knows they'...

Re: Visit the Central Cascades while you still can...

they could put tickets on vehicles nice how they morphed to the fees will go to trail maintenance, that will sell better I heard news stories on several TV and radio stations. They just reported what the FS said. Tickets on cars, for what, parking on a FS road? FLREA explicitly states the FS cannot...

Re: Visit the Central Cascades while you still can...

I don't even have much to say... Lol @ permit supporters through the years. Enjoy the endless permits and fees. FS talks out of both sides of their mouth, during the entire proposal and review process they said the costs would fund enforcement. Now that they're severely limiting access, the 'new' fu...

Re: Visit the Central Cascades while you still can...

"too many people" - that's a metric but there's nothing in the wilderness act that says a hard number or how to measure what is too many. And yet Mount Hood sees more and is smaller.. How's that work? When the Forest Supervisors flatly state that restricting and limiting access as they have set out ...
