Re: Eagle Cap: Cached at Cached Lake

I actually saw those 3 old gents packing those lawn chairs years back, it might have been my post. Also, I have visited Pop Lake and thought I was picking up the initial trail (by Cached Lake) only to have it fade away after a few hundred yards. I just kept working my way uphill and again picked up ...

Re: China Cap (Eagle Cap) - 7/6/19

Thanks for the report and the beta on ascending China Cap. A few years ago, I was going to attempt this also as a day hike. I didn't even get out of my car. It was September, and bow hunting season had just begun. The parking area was full of horse trailers and massive horse and mule trains were se...

Re: 6/26/19 - Lake Legore, Wallowa Mountains

The trail rounds the east side of Swamp Lake before passing the large marshy area at the lake’s south end that gave the place its name. From here the trail climbs a steep hillside onwell-graded switchbacks up to a fork in the trail atop a windswept alpine plateau. Note: Before late July snow may cov...

Re: High Wallowas, July 11-14, 2018

Your trip report is my number uno ever from the Eagle Cap. Good luck to anyone finding a more scenic route. There's only a handful of lakes I haven't visited in the Wallowas. I'll be damned, you passed by two I have on my radar, Deadman and Granite (Hawk known by locals). The hanging valley just bel...

Did it, just a slog up a hillside, picking a route and ascending vertically.

Re: Eagle Cap - Cusick and Sacajawea - 8/2-8/5/18

Do you think it's possible to ascend the inlet stream (or thereabouts) of Little Frazier Lake up to Prospect Lake? I've been eying that one but haven't been by Little Frazier in person. I've been to Prospect Lake a couple times but from the Glacier Lake side.

Re: Wallowa must see hikes!

These are all day hikes from the Northern and Eastern side that I have done. There's plenty from the Southern side but spend your time hiking not driving. 1) From Joseph head East and take the scenic byway to Tenderfoot trailhead. Take 1819 to 1802 passing Bonny Lakes up to Dollar Pass. On top of Do...

Re: Eagle Cap Wilderness

I've been over the saddle from Glacier to Prospect a couple times but never ventured over to the outlet stream that descends to Little Frazier Lake. Did it look like a scramble up from Little Frazier to Prospect is doable? I have a trip planned the last weekend in September from E Eagle TH up past C...

Re: Strawberry Eclipse Backpack

A few months prior to the eclipse I had planned on hiking in to Little Strawberry Lake with the wife and kids, thinking who would go to that remote destination? Had planned to summit Strawberry Mountain for the eclipse. But as the date closed in and the press articles painted a picture of mass conge...

Re: Above the Smoke to Echo Lake, Eagle Cap Aug 5-6 2017

Last visited 4 years ago and on our descent very early the following morning we crossed paths with an ascending trail runner, about 6'6", lean and wearing only a tank top and running shorts, carrying only a water bottle. He just blew past us. We stopped looking at each other thinking, "who the hell...
