Re: Rescued hiker on Mt. Defiance
There may well have been a trail through that area long ago. I've actually run across trail tread between Cabin Creek Ridge & Starvation Ridge. Obvious in some places, not so much in others. Possibly a trail was there once, but it likely didn't follow the nice curving line as shown on USGS maps. Try...

Re: Swale Canyon Lyme Disease warning
FYI: A tick generally needs to be attached for 24hrs+ for Lyme disease transmission. Per the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/lyme/transmission/index.html In most cases, the tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours or more before the Lyme disease bacterium can be transmitted. That said, ticks can carry othe...

Re: Uber / Lyft North Oregon Coast?
Not sure about Uber/Lyft, but you might also check out local bus service in the area as an alternate. Catch the morning bus out and hike back to your car. I did something similar a couple years back when backpacking the coastal trail through Samuel Boardman State Park down in southern OR. The Coasta...

Re: Wauneka Gap Tree
A woman participating in a NW Wilderness meetup hike took a fall up there last December.

Re: Vision Quest Pits off Wyeth, Apr 15, 2017
The top of the rockfield near the pits is probably the single best viewpoint on Wyeth. I've visited it a couple of times - once coming up from Shellrock (very brushy) and another time via Lindsey Ridge.

Re: Munra Point fixed ropes?
I kinda doubt a lot of folks leaving ropes behind give much thought to questions such as nylon vs. polyester. "What's cheap?" is likely a dominating factor while shopping at the local hardware store. I've seen at least one "rope" left behind in the Gorge that was pretty much glorified shoelace mater...

Re: Munra Point fixed ropes?
Another point of discussion - fixed anchors (generally rock climbing bolts) have been a point of contention USFS wilderness areas. Munra point is not in a wilderness area. Actually Munra Point is indeed inside the Mark Hatfield wilderness. The boundary was expanded in 2009. Munra.jpg http://www.wil...

Memaloose Rd has been closed since 2015 per the big fire down the Clackamas area. Suspect OP means another road.
