Re: Herman creek caves
I have a friend that fought off a black bear on Herman Creek trail on May 28th - probably the sign that was posted was because of this. This is what she wrote about it on her personal page: I had a pretty traumatic hike off of Herman Creek Trail. I ended up running into a bear that upon a seeing me ...

Re: North Cascades vs Eagle Cap
Thanks! Sounds like Eagle Cap might not be the right fit for this trip. I am looking into Glacier as a base right now for the Mt Baker area. Much appreciated!

Re: North Cascades vs Eagle Cap
Thanks, that makes sense. My guess is approximately 2000 ft elevation gain would be around the maximum.

North Cascades vs Eagle Cap
Looking for some hiking/travel advice. Looking to spend 3ish full days in one of these areas in early August. Main activity will be hiking, but my hiking partner can only hike up to 8ish miles if there is decent elevation gain. I have never been to either of these areas. Which one could we find hike...

Re: The Bumper
Thanks! I decided to hike around Mt St Helens that day, but appreciate the general comment on the crossings.

Re: The Bumper
Really appreciate the trip report. This question is for anyone familiar with this trail....looking to hike this on Sunday 10/23. First time in the area and I would follow the route as reported here on OregonHikers. The description mentions multiple creek crossings. Are these fairly mundane? It also ...

Re: Which trailhead for Swale Canyon?
Thank you! Had a great time from the Harmes Road TH. So much wildlife today! Many marmot, an owl, deer, lizards, and many other birds. Oh, and only 6 humans. And a couple ticks, but they had a short ride.

Which trailhead for Swale Canyon?
I've hiked from Harmes Rd, only went about 6 miles RT. I am looking to do about 8 miles RT and trying to decide Harmes Rd again vs Wahkiacus (before it closes for the season). Is one option more scenic, or just different? From Wahkiacus, how many miles do you have to walk to get away from the homes?...
