Re: 240 people haven't returned from the Oregon woods since 1997
squidvicious, Thanks posting that link. We live in Missouri now, so missed that story. It gives a lot of closure for me & I'm sure that it will for Jon as well. Still no explanation as to why he was up there on that talus slope, 500+ yards above the trail. Loose rock, cliffs, deep ferns & devil's cl...

Re: Mt. Venus, Mt. Margaret back county, Sept. 22, 2023
Peder, I have been on P5207. Yes the views are quit amazing. Nothing even close to that here in Missouri, that's for sure! The hind ends of those characters in that crowd sure do look familiar. Has to be the same mob I encountered as I was descending off the ridge NW of P5207 on my way down to pick ...

Re: Mt. Venus, Mt. Margaret back county, Sept. 22, 2023
Way to go Don! Glad to read that you've still got some push left in you, even if it isn't quite what it used to be. Those pictures sure did bring back memories. The part of that trek that I loved was after you get out of the brush & see that clear ridge line ahead of you & you can just soak in the v...

Re: Mt. Adams, Stagman Ridge Oct. 6th, 2020
Don, Roman & I were up there a couple of years back. Loved the area. We went up the creek, beautiful, slightly challenging route. We had the perfect timing to see the creek actually receding upwards. Because it takes about 12 hrs for the melt water to get down to the meadow, we were seeing the decre...

Re: Summit Springs Ranger Station
It's been a couple of years now since I have been in the area. I do recall reading somewhere that there was a cabin there for a few years. There is some evidence near the trail. I am remembering maybe parts of a wood stove and maybe a coffee pot????. As for the actual cabin, I couldn't find anything...

Re: The "Old" Mt Mitchell Trail
I think what confused me was that he said he didn't see a gate. & I thought: "Finally! The DNR came to an agreement with Cougar Cabins". But no, I was wrong again. .. (The more times you are wrong, the easier it gets to admit it ....)

Re: The "Old" Mt Mitchell Trail
EricinVancouver, I am confused by your post. I drove up there today to check it out. I drove through Cougar, then about 6 miles to the last right turn you can make before crossing the canal. At .9 miles, I ran into this: http://www.fototime.com/DD7AA2E47035DA8/standard.jpg . This sure looked like a ...

Butte Camp Dome, Mt St Helens
This was to be my second ascent of this bump on the SW side of Mt St Helens. I did it a few years back with Don Nelson (aka: elk man) and Peder Bisberg. That trip was a crazy one, going up a flood gully, and coming down through dense slide alder. This trip was very peaceful, with no big surprises. I...
