Re: Covid-19

Right. Has anybody heard of any actual prosecution at any level for violating any of these various orders nationwide? My guess is that in Skamania County, nobody will get prosecuted unless they need a SAR or somehow otherwise make a nuisance of themselves. And while the impact is county-wide, I exp...

Re: GPS accuracy experiences

measured distances that are about 20% longer In my experience, it's easy for two identical devices to be off up to 10% simply due to different sampling rates. In general, the more data points there are the longer the line is. Phones don't tend to record points very often, and Garmin devices (eg, th...

Re: Cougar Rock Trail

Technically the whole basin is still under the closure. Interestingly, despite some signage saying the road is closed, the "high water trail" totally lacks any indication of that. Likely because as far as I know, the highwater trail isn't an official split, and the powers that be that haven't actua...

Because of t...

Re: Making tracks on Larch - 2/23/19

'snow bombs' / cannon fire is a pretty accurate description. Those limbs get loaded up to capacity, and then when snow above them melts off, or gets blown off it just cascades down to dropping a massive chunk of ice/snow/slush..

Re: I'm so tired of boot manufacturers lying to us.

I've had decently good luck with Keen and Mammut, Danner as well but that's usually a different style of boot (although if you want something tall it's hard to beat. If you've got oddly shaped feet you may look into Whites or Nicks, I believe they're both NW made, and custom to fit your specific fee...

Re: Suunto 9 - No gradient metric?

I don't have on myself, so I looked at the manual..

It doesn't look like it will show the grade that you're currently walking, but you can bring up elevation profiles of routes or previous activity I think?

[...]if a parking violation is a crime - yes it is, no its not a serious crime, but it is one that is "on the books." Possibly semantics and/or beating of a dead horse... But to the best of my knowledge that wouldn't be technically accurate... All crimes are violations of the law, but not all viola...
