Re: I'm so tired of boot manufacturers lying to us.

I've had decently good luck with Keen and Mammut, Danner as well but that's usually a different style of boot (although if you want something tall it's hard to beat. If you've got oddly shaped feet you may look into Whites or Nicks, I believe they're both NW made, and custom to fit your specific fee...

Re: Suunto 9 - No gradient metric?

I don't have on myself, so I looked at the manual..

It doesn't look like it will show the grade that you're currently walking, but you can bring up elevation profiles of routes or previous activity I think?

Could be that another post was made while you were writing yours, then it defaults to that goofy secondary submission page.... That's burned me a few times

[...]if a parking violation is a crime - yes it is, no its not a serious crime, but it is one that is "on the books." Possibly semantics and/or beating of a dead horse... But to the best of my knowledge that wouldn't be technically accurate... All crimes are violations of the law, but not all viola...

Yes to the former, I'm not sure about the latter ;)

P.S. Looks like they do normally swing that gate out, although it may be able to be opened in, I'm not sure. Been awhile since I've had to open it!

Re: Am I an insensitive jerk, or is the USFS wound a bit tight?

Personally, I would disagree... From the looks of things you're either in front of the gate or damn near to it? Also in the approach to the bridge? There's other parking not in the roadway, pretty damn close to that if I recall correctly? As someone who has had gates blocked, trapping rescue vehicle...

Re: Palmer Mill Rd/Primrose Path - Dec 7, 2018

I located a road just a little beyond the start of the decom on the south side of Bridal Veil creek that will need exploring. I followed it up until a switchback. I think I know the road you mean. I followed it once a few years ago. It climbed to the top rim of the gravel pit before fading into the...

Re: Bridal Veil Plateau is different now

If you're talking about the eastern side of that loop in the map, there was quite a bit of work done on it, at least in terms of a dozer line pushed through during the fire. We've just always colloquially called that the 'clearcut road' since there was an old cut down there, and it's just slowly fad...

Pro-tip, if you're in those kind of conditions where you bottle is freezing up, pack it upside down. The ice will form on the top, so when you flip it to drink you don't have to battle the crust to get to the liquidy goodness.. And if you've got a hydration pack instead, (and you're good about clean...

Re: Bridal Veil Plateau is different now

The maps of the Basin Road are technically more correct than people realize. Multnomah Basin Road climbs uphill from Multnomah Creek, crosses the Larch Mountain Trail and then turns left and continues uphill. At the top of this hill the current road takes a sharp right. At this point the road today...
