Re: Sun sweetened thimbleberries on Primrose Path 7-26-22

Devils Fork 7-28-22.jpg Red Shorts is greatly encouraged by your support. He was up in the woods again today the 28th, doing some needed brushing. The picture is a view up Devils Fork after he did some brushing in the bear tunnel area. He only observed 4 folks in a group today, just above Fairy Fal...

Sun sweetened thimbleberries on Primrose Path 7-26-22

Primrose Path Thimbleberries.jpg Red Shorts reports that one can summit Devils Rest from Wahkeena trailhead without getting a scratch if you take the Primrose Path route and are careful to avoid the blackberry vines that reach out at ankle level in places. A bumper crop of sweet ripe thimbleberries...

Re: Foxglove Loop via Angel's Rest trail 022422

Micra.jpg "Red Shorts" has this to report: "just spent the last few days at 3 hospitals, Life Flight ride between 2 of them, Mobile ICU ride between the other 2, and , once again, was on Vancomycin. The pacemaker leads that were infected 2 years ago failed and almost killed me. So I got a new pacem...

Re: Primrose Trail?

Thanks Don, As of Feb 25, there were 13 trees needing to be cut on the #415, some of good size, but I don't recall any bigger than any you have already cut in the upper area. Note that Red Shorts has NOT done much in the way of clearing or brushing in this area. He has plans to maintain his brushing...

Re: Primrose Trail?

Red Shorts is a "young" old guy and is extremely grateful for the March 5, 2022 major log out, done by others, of the "new" Primrose Path. 7 trunked tree log cut.jpg The main trunk of this 7 trunked tree had broke off and was a major hurdle, no more! Devil's Cutoff junction.jpg All that remains is t...

Re: Foxglove Loop via Angel's Rest trail 022422

Thanks Don for your hard work on more than just the Foxglove! AngelsRestrelocate2.jpg Red Shorts took this picture after he "relocated" the Angel's Rest trail upper section by extensive brushing and cutting (up to 6 inch diameter). There was no "before" picture because he did not realize that the br...

Re: Visit to Foxglovia 1-24-22

Foxglovia.jpg Red Shorts likes the new signs that others have made and put up. He has helped direct many a lost hiker. One hiker said, "I have GPS, yet I am still lost". Signs will help! He puts in many hours a week recently working on these USER maintained trails. Often times, he is first on the s...

Re: Primrose Trail?

Anyone recognize this cairn? The legendary "Red Shorts" redid the Primrose Path as a solo project starting in December 2020 and as part of his scouting of the area, took these pictures on what he calls the "Devils Shaft". The Elevator Shaft was "Red Shorts" favorite climb before the fire and he want...

Re: Slide emerging on Larch Mountain Trail 441?

I went through the area on 12-23 and took pictures. The slid section and cracks are obvious (close up picture). ObviousCrack12232020.jpg What is not obvious to someone not paying attention is that there is now cracks on the uphill side of the trail that extend to the south starting 3 feet uphill fro...

Re: A Tick and the Rogue River Trail

Tick bite victim here: My Neuroretinitis (blurred vision) has resolved, with decreased fatigue. This supports the hypothesis that I had a mild bout of Cat Scratch Fever as one of the suite of diseases carried by the tick that got me in the car on the way home!. The adult tick would have picked up th...
