Re: Ape Canyon - 2022-07-27

In my experience flies don’t care about deet. And that’s the value of wearing pants. I bet Chip would 2nd that…. However, the mountain biker I mentioned, said when coming down the hill said that the deet worked for him. Another mountain biker was clothed from head to toe, including gloves. I bet he...

Ape Canyon - 2022-07-27

We started at the Ape Canyon trailhead at about 7:30 with a temp of about 63 degrees. Sky was very clear with only a little haze. We were the only car at the trailhead. The trail is in really good condition. IMG_2210.JPG We came out from the woods to Ape Canyon at about 10:00. We walked the addition...

Re: Larch Mountain Crater / Oneonta

The section of Oneonta back to Larch Mt Road today was great. Very little mud and the trail was mostly dry. There were lots of Trillium and Glacier Lilies. On the whole loop we saw minor and easily passable mud sections. The downed trees were as previously mentioned. Was perfect weather for this hik...

Re: Hike Up - Not Down

Not sure if Mt Hood Ski Bowl would allow only taking the lift down. If they do, a hike up Tom, Dick and Harry and then across the ridge to the top of Ski Bowl lift might work.

Re: barefoot hypothermic hiker rescued from Munra Point

Last time I hiked Munra Point before the closures, I almost misplaced my body coming down. Nearly took a tumble down the chute on the main trail. A handy root saved me. Swore I would not do that trail again! :?

I get this occasionally… once per week maybe. Usually if I refresh the page, it comes up ok. Sometimes, I have to relogin.

Dalles Mt Ranch Hike – 2022-03-16

Temp was 39 degrees with a cold wind when we started. We could see clouds at the top, so knew we might not have a good view. There was a nice view of Mt Hood when we started, but it became obscured by clouds. IMG_2013.JPG IMG_2015.JPG IMG_2024.JPG Grass widows, yellow bells and other small flowers w...
