Re: Inactive members: where are they now?
Been at stage 9 for a while now. Raising a family has significantly reduced my time to hike and energy to make TRs. I still check the site regularly. FB is a no go for me. Off trail TRs are a slippery slope (pun intended) with publicly posting info. Like Charley said, this type of forum is most pref...

Re: Best trail car/truck
Don't underestimate the overall value of a utilitarian vehicle like a 4 door sedan with great gas mileage and reliability that gets you to most destinations on most roads most of the time. I had a Mazda Protege (5 speed) that was used for such purposes year around for 15+ years. The only issue was c...

Re: Hiker rescued off Gorton Creek trail
An insane and unfortunately all too common ordeal in the Gorge. Definitely lucky he made out alive. Having accompanied Bosterson and been on my own in much of that area on and off trail, I shudder to think what a lost ill prepared person unfamiliar with the terrain would experience. I can almost ima...

Re: Will the Nesmith point trail ever reopen?
My sense (hope?) is that, at some point, they're going to have to just categorically declare the whole thing open, and let the chips fall where they may. When they do, my hope is that boots (er... trail runners) beat those trails back into something like existence, even if they never get officially...

Re: Little Baldy (Silver Star): north ridge and south ridge
Nice reminder of the splendors of that area. June is a good time to go. Those southern off trail ridge routes have some pretty horrific brush. I recall some past Pablo TRs vowing "never again." Never been on Little Baldy's south ridge, but the upper reaches above 3000ft look great. It's been a while...

T'was a great day. HC Trail is in good shape. Deadfall is minimal. A handsaw would take care of most of it. Most of what little there is resides beyond Casey Creek.

Re: Green Point Mtn - amazing snow - 2/17/20
Alright, Nat! Thanks for putting this up. Such nice looking conditions up there. The west Green Point and east Tomlike deep snow shortcuts have always looked so enticing. You pulled a lot of us out of the woodwork to post with a little nudge. Nice to know many still check the forum and field guide r...

Re: Conifer IDs
Wow, thanks for initiating this thread, Nat! I've wanted to get better at native tree IDs and this is a handy interactive resource. I'll have to download that app. John, your contributions to increasingly our knowledge of plants are much appreciated! It seems the Mt Hood National Forest south of Gov...

Re: Goat Marsh, Goat Mountain (St Helens)
You picked a good day to go up there. Attaining Goat from the east is committing (exposed 4th class) and not easily reversed. I did a clockwise loop starting roughly from where you did and descended due north off the summit (atrocious brush) in July 2017. Took all day. That beargrass ridge on the ea...
