Re: Elk Meadows and the Argyle Tree

I was reminded of the argyle tree a few days ago, between ice storms in east county. The pattern in the ice on this tree, is similar. Considering the winds we had, no doubt this tree twisted and rocked, creating the pattern you see.

The gorge, after all this weather

Will be curious to see, hear, how the gorge trails fared with all the snow, ice and heavy wind storms this last week. I live in North Gresham, so get nearly the weather that Troutdale does. Re: I just won the "forgot something stupid" olympics

Forgot tent poles. Only, I didn't forget mine. I forgot my husband's. We didn't have a 2P yet, so I packed my two 1P tents. We hiked in, he unpacked... No poles. He was a good sport and just wrapped up in the tent like a bivy.

Park Meadow trail

Saw the iffy Wallowas forecast for Labor Day weekend, and didn't want to drive 6+ hours to hike in rain. So looked around and found a Friday 9/1 permit available for the Park Meadow trailhead near Sisters. The fog outside Sisters, heading up FS 16, was so bad I could see only two road paint stripes ...
