Outdoor school taught about berries: "Blue and black always, red sometimes, white never." I've found it accurate so far.

The red berries appear to be red huckleberries, usually found at lower elevations. Blue huckleberries grow at higher elevations. Near Timothy, they are at peak. You can pick what you want but cannot take out of the forest, without a permit. Free harvest permit limits you to three gallons.

July 21st they we're moderately annoying. Moving, no problem. Sitting reading a book, well I went into my tent. They should be much better now.

We did our Perseids trip at Dollar Lake on Mt. Hood, one year. Excellent viewing.

This trail is in the Wallowa Whitman Forest, outside of Baker. It's one end of the Elkhorn trail. Looking for a bit of info. Room for camping at trailhead? Forested, or open? Water?

We have the Copper Spur HV UL3, for two of us, and found lots of extra room, fwiw. One 25" and one 20" sleeping pad. A thought -- two 2-3 person tents offers flexibility. Wouldn't have to carry a really large tent if only 2 people going. Also tent for the two kids is a bit more adventure for them, I...
