Re: Forest Service punches hikers below the belt

So is there anyone at TKO that actually takes part in or reaches out to this, ostensibly their very own, community? As I mentioned, there is only one full-time staff person. You can reach out to TKO via email to express your desire that someone respond to discussions on this forum. Right, and I'm p...

Re: Forest Service punches hikers below the belt

Regarding the TKO board meeting at which the Central Cascades proposal was discussed, some of the board members were pretty familiar with the plan (myself included) and some were not. It's not like everyone was scratching their heads saying, "we have no idea what you're talking about." Hey Cheryl, ...

Re: Forest Service punches hikers below the belt

That may be fine but TKO should state their position on issues that directly affect access. It's not really a big ask. I was on the TKO Board when the Central Cascades permitting issue appeared on a meeting agenda (I have since stepped down). There was little discussion because other Board members ...

Re: Climbing Mt St Helens early May

Microspikes sounds like a good idea. I have been talking to few people, they mentioned, we might be end up needing snowshoes. What's your take on that? That's an immensely popular mountain. If you're on std route, I can't imagine needing snowshoes. Of course, it's still early enough in the season t...

Re: Forest Service punches hikers below the belt

However, because we use an outfitter/guide permit to operate Mazama programs in the gorge, we are held to different rules. Outfitter/guides are not allowed to take guided groups on Dog Mountain on weekends during the permit period, even if we buy permits. It sounds like that has to do with the guid...

Re: Fast melt-out on the gorge trails

Wow! Been a very good week indeed. :D

I've seen similarly rapid melting on the WA side, out by Coyote Wall and Dog Mtn, but those photos seemed to show much slower melting on the north-facing OR side.

Really couldn't be happier, after a 7-mile snowshoe slog earlier this week!

Re: FS Service Wishram Webcam Funding Cut

Reminds me of school districts which will fail to replace old textbooks at low cost as a way of sending a message to parents. "We don't have any money, look at how impecunious we are!" Yep! Or the first thing "they" did when Measure 5 passed in Oregon... They certainly "showed" the voters by immedi...

Re: Coast Range snow levels??

Anyone have a real time update on the snow levels in the Coast Range?? Looking for some snow free hiking if possible. Lowest reaches of the Wilson River Trail snow free yet?? For those still interested, the section of WRT between Diamond Mill and Wilson Falls (elev. 375-925') was all but bare on Sa...

Re: FS Service Wishram Webcam Funding Cut

Hit that on Friday, when we were trying to figure out the extent of the Nothing. Argh!!! That's certainly one I've turned to for years, too. Such a loss! And so seemingly petty, even gratuitous... as if meant to anger people? Certainly the old system was built to automatically update the webs...
