Re: USFS oppression marches on with proposed high-Hood permit

It seems to me that, as we come out of the time of Covid, people are returning to the old standbys. Before Covid I think a lot of people were seeking out the more obscure places because of crowding at the popular ones. But now, everyone seems to be thinking, "I haven't been to Mt. Hood/The Gorge in...

Any flowers at Bald Mountain?

Re: it's going to be an itchy summer

Ahhh this brings back memories of the summers of my youth when the still of some early mornings were broken by the roar of a low flying helicopter saturating our yards with what I assume was DDT to control the mosquitoes. I remember my mother jumping out of bed telling my dad and I to get up and qui...

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline July 27, 2022

As I was nearly back to the lodge I passed a couple of rangers and overheard some people asking them something to the effect of, "Did the Timberline folks or the USFS plant the flowers in the meadow?" Did you hear the response? I'd love to hear the official USFS answer  I believe a portion of ...

Re: Ramona is at its finest

Interesting, I was well before that. Not sure why "not having a bridge" would be the response to that tragedy. Other than of course - I'm sure the bridge was destroyed as well. Anyway, just got back from there. We forded the river on the way in, as there was a line of people inching their way acros...

Re: Strange experience at Frog Lake Day Use area

Today I had a encounter at Trillium Lake and now I see the same thing at Frog Lake. Where will it stop? Can the Forest service continue extending concessionaire to other sites? That's been the case at both locations for a few years. You just didn't get caught. :( It's only when it's off season when...

Re: sustainable wilderness camping management

A short note on enforcement....I was in the Eagle Cap Wilderness and went past a campsite that was within 20 feet of a waterway, with a fire burning and a dog tied to a rock...no person in sight...passed a ranger and said "great, now you can ticket these idiots" ...he said, "We don't ticket anymore...

Re: Favorite area with easyish hikes?

Easy hikes: I'm thinking most every national park. Sure, there are some long hikes in national parks and some moderate hikes, but there are always A-level hikes and lunch hour strolls available for families with children. Except many National Parks and National Monuments are not dog friendly. Check...
