Re: Bridge of the Gods to Timberline Lodge

Hello Everyone, We have never hiked in the PNW, so I am looking for a little input for a 5 day hike June 4-9. As the subject line indicates, I have an idea for a route but would like some advice. We are fairly experienced hikers, but I do like to hear input from a few people who are familiar with t...

Re: 2019 Snow Level

I just went overnight Fri/Sat. About a mile in from Ramona Falls TH, you hit a spot where people have put branches and stones to block the trail to the right. Go left down to the river banks and go up the river about 50 feet. There will be a large tree to hold on to and smaller trees a little lower ...

Re: 2019 Snow Level

Has anyone hiked Ramona Falls from the RF Trailhead yet this season? I'm wondering about the Sandy River Crossing.

Thanks!

Re: Trailhead Parking

Please note that despite USFS signs stating that Northwest Forest Pass (NWFP) being required, per a 2014 9th Circuit Court ruling, the NWFP is only required if you use the amenities at the site. http://www.allgov.com/USA/ca/news/where-is-the-money-going/federal-judge-takes-a-chunk-out-of-forest-serv...

Salmon river trail is now clear. It looked like some fresh snow on the ridge tops above around 4000'.
How far in?

Re: 2019 Snow Level

Went up Herman Ck, spent last night. Snow coverage becomes pretty complete just a few hundred yards before the Herman Ck crossing, which is at about 8 miles in. So Cedar Swamp is open for camping. Also popped over the the other side to check out the Trapper Ck trailhead, getting close: trapper trlh...

I'm guessing the several inches of rain this weekend has gone a long way toward melting out the low- to mid-elevation terrain.
I sure hope so!

Re: 2019 Snow Level

And I do expect that the coming rains this week will at least make the TH accessible. But it will be well into April until you can get far up Trapper Creek. Yes, I expected that. The purpose of this trip was primarily to sleep outside (aaah refreshing) and help a new backpacker test his recently pu...

Re: 2019 Snow Level

Attempted low elevation backpack in Trapper Creek Wilderness last weekend. We got to the intersection for the 1/2 mile drive to the trailhead parking lot. We were surprised and dismayed to see that there was still a solid 12"-15" of snow, completely covering the dirt road to the trailhead. The snow ...
