Re: Bald Butte from the north 6-5-23
FWIW, there are lots of moto-legal trails near Surveyor's, but Surveyor's itself is officially closed to motos.

Elk Meadows and Mountain via Bluegrass
There's still some snow at the dang trailhead, but this hike went well enough. Absolutely has to be done with a GPS if you're going within the next week, no question, and I would be wary to ever try the Bluegrass Tie Trail without a GPS track loaded. The main climb up was free of snow though plenty ...

Re: Skamania's Silver Star Summer Solstice Saturday Sunrise
Drove up today with my buddy in his full size pickup. While we did see a Subaru Crosstek and an Outback up there, the road is still in damn rough shape. I think this report is a little too optimistic about conditions. It would take some very hard driving to get a regular passenger vehicle up there. ...

Re: Visit to Foxglovia 1-24-22
I love the Foxglove rats nest of trails. I can't remember if it was foxglove or primrose, but the fire opened up an old bottle dump right off the main trail and I absconded a couple years back with some nice complete bottles, probably from the 40s or 50s. Last time I was up there was in November and...

Lemei Trail->PCT->Cultus Creek Trail->Road Loop 11-3-19
Forecast was stunning for the late fall, so my buddy and I planned to get one last crack of running in the wonderful Gifford Pinchot. Parked and started at the Lemei Trail and saw more people than we expected throughout the day, a few different groups of hunters (all friendly), a pair of backpackers...

Found: Warby Parker Hayden glasses on Fox Glove Trail / Angel's Rest
While hiking on the Fox Glove trail above Angel's Rest yesterday, looked down and found some tortoise shell, presumably prescription glasses. Warby Parker Haydens. Lenses still look in decent shape. If yours get in touch and I can get them back to you.

I strongly encourage you to join attend a TKO member meeting and volunteer yourself to the executive committee. The demands on a volunteer org. like TKO are unimaginably vast.

Re: Missing hiker on the Timberline Trail
The White River crossing is confusing, and if you look at it on google maps, you can see how a confused/unfamiliar hiker might have ended up climbing up an internal ridge instead of fully crossing to the other side. My heart goes out to his family. I'm finding it hard not to feel frustrated by his p...
