Re: Over Half of Central Cascades Permits Go Unused
I agree that there was probably much less than 50% of the permits that were actually used. I base this on spending a week in the area this August and looking at the number of cars at the trail head. I understand that the Forest service was especially upset that the Oregon Department of transportatio...

Re: Green lakes post-permit system
I was at the Green Lakes Trailhead last Thursday and there were few cars parked about 11 in the morning. Both day-hikers and backpackers have to fight for the same limited number of permits and permits were gone in minutes. I was able to hike on the Sisters Mirror trail and there were very few backp...

Re: Backpacking southern oregon PCT in late June
This winter has seen a lot of snow in the north of the state and you might check out how southern Oregon/Northern California is doing. I have hiked over the 4th in the Marbles and the Trinity’s (California) and Red Butte Wilderness (Oregon and California) and usually the trails are open.

Volunteers pick up the trash, I believe. The part that is closed is for birds, earlier ducks unlimited provided funds and that area was open for hunting.

High Prairie Road
Has anyone taken this road recently? The old Duffer Mill road is open but the forest service hasn't updated on road4410 since April.

Re: Eagle Creek Clackamas Access?
Yes, the road is open. I did this a few weeks ago. The loggers didn't regrade the road and there are some huge dips. We got through in a subaru but it might be harder after some days of rain. The trail is in good shape.

Re: Tell Metro how to manage new lands north of Forest Park
I've hiked several of the hikes in this area using the Portland Forest Hikes book by James D Thayer (who loves to hike with his dog if the guide is any indication.) Mt. Bikers have done a lot of work to make trails in the area listed as Runaway Ridge Loop and I enjoyed walking on these use trails. O...
