It's been a number of years on this one, but it looks like coming in from that ridge on the east is the best bet.

Old Mazama Books
Hi, I ran across an old Mazama book while doing research on an area. I believe they were published annually, but only a few years seem to be available. The years are 1897, 1907, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, and 1923. The topics run a wide range of topics and are good f...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps
Is it possible to use Gmap4 as a pseudo-Panoramio? To place a marker overlay with geolocated photos? Panoramio is dead and the Google Maps/Photos combo is pretty terrible.

Re: Drinking Stream Water
What about if there's a dead deer fermenting upstream just around the corner?I do filter from lakes and tarns or flowing water that has camping upstream
I'd rather spend $15 and spend 2 minutes so I didn't ever have to worry about it.

It takes about 2 minutes to set up and have water flowing. Takes another 1 minute to fill up the bladder at the river ...

Re: Drinking Stream Water
I don't understand much of this. If you have a hydration bladder in your pack, spend $15 and buy a Sawyer Mini filter at Fred Meyer. It takes 2 minutes to splice into your tube so you have an inline filter. It doesn't noticeably slow down the flow, either. I also use this setup while camping as a gr...

Re: Camera Recommendation for the Trail
I have an AW100 as well. It's not perfect, but it will take a drop and is waterproof. It also takes good pictures. I will never be able to take the same quality of pictures as the people with $5000 cameras and $2000 lenses who then spend hours on Photoshop. But, for the price and the convenience, th...

And if it's an overweight woman, make sure to compliment her on doing it while pregnant.

Re: Overheard on the trail
We were doing a short hike up the North Umpqua trail during late spring. We were a mile or so up from the trailhead. We had already passed through a few mudholes on the trail, so we were fairly muddy. Came around the corner and here's a guy walking towards us wearing dress shoes, light grey slacks, ...

It saw what it was about to be a part of and jumped off the cliff instead.
