Re: Archer Mountain 4-6-22
Thanks bobcat! My initial thought was they were referring to Wauneka Point, but it seems too far east to refer to it as 'directly across'. Elevator Shaft actually makes perfect sense! I also considered maybe were referring to features I'd never seen (or no longer exist) on Larch... I never got up to...

Re: Archer Mountain 4-6-22
Thanks, Don! I thought maybe you'd have an answer. I think that has to be correct; I've wandered around on that pipeline section a bit, and that sounds like what they're describing, though I've never noticed any obvious mounds. That spot is among my favorite in the area for views, I'll have to go po...

Re: Archer Mountain 4-6-22
Good thought! I don't think that's what they're describing in the article though, unless they were way off course . The pits at Silver Star are a beautiful destination!retired jerry wrote: ↑June 7th, 2022, 2:03 pmaren't there some Indian mounds south of Silver Star Mountain?

Re: Archer Mountain 4-6-22
Wonderful report and photos! I'm endlessly fascinated by this area and love seeing reports from those of you who know it well. Here's a link to an Archer trip report from the September 16, 1901 edition of the Oregonian: https://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/lccn/sn83025138/1901-09-16/ed-1/seq-9/ Does anyon...

Pretty exciting, huh?adamschneider wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 9:46 amI'm glad you posted this, because it made me look up when I was driving past on I-84 just now... and sure enough, there were 4 of them visible about halfway up the mountain.

Re: confused Mountain Goat on Dog Mountain!
I've seen as many as four together in the cliffs between Dog Mountain and Dog Creek recently. I only have a cell phone pic taken from Viento a few weeks back for proof, unfortunately

Re: Monuments of Remembrance
There's also a plaque at the Top Spur TH, plus several DIY memorials where scattered remains have been laid to rest. I personally wish the latter weren't the case... better to just scatter and keep the memory as the place, itself. There used to be a memorial under the old Texas lift... not sure if ...

They've been improving the powerline roads. The gravel road doesn't continue west past the bridge over Summit Creek, but there is flagging that leads you SW, up and around 'The Backbone' and over to Shellrock. I stumbled upon this thread trying to find out more info.

Speaking of triangulation. Bump! I noticed this marker years ago above the North Bonneville Traihead. Today I finally decided to check it out.
