Toliak Point feb 2024

In February I spent a few nights on Toliak Point Toliak Point from my campsite: 202402kalaloch.jpg I do a trip there most years. Mostly walking along beaches with occasional spots where a trail goes around a head. Bald Eagles. Marine Mammals. Racoons. Off season hardly anyone. There was this guy Gar...

Rogue River 4/9/2024

First I tried to get to Tucker Flat but there was snow on the road. Then I went Graves Creek (from Wolf Creek). A few people parked there. The road also appeared open from Merlin. Then I drove to Whiskey Creek, a little easier access to the Rogue than Graves Creek. Abandoned car just before trailhea...

Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

I tried to drive to Tucker Flat on the middle to the Rogue River. A bit too much snow for my tastes. On April 9.

It's probably okay now, or by the time anyone reads this and then goes there.

I just went to the east end - Graves Creek

Re: May 2024 Backpacking

I haven't been there since before that fire a few years ago If it's nice weather on the weekend Eagle Creek will be mobbed You could drive to Eagle Creek and assess - if too busy go to Herman Creek Herman Creek is the only place my car has ever been broken into - don't leave anything visible in your...

Re: May 2024 Backpacking

I've hiked on the Lewis River a little. It's not real wild.

Hiking up Eagle Creek or Herman Creek would be better in my experience. Eagle Creek is busier and not so many places to camp, but amazing views of the creek.

Re: Timberline Trail Backpacking Itinerary and Questions

I think September is the best month - not quite as hot, snow melted so streams are easier to cross Several years ago there were several days of heavy rain in September. The stream flow increased. A hiker was washed away and didn't survive. Another year someone didn't survive crossing the seasonal br...

Re: New Section Hiker

you could try asking someone here for a ride. it might work if you were flexible about time and place if you did some loop you could start at McKenzie Pass and do the PCT west of the Three Sisters, and then there's a parallel trail on the east side of the Three Sisters. you could extend that - there...

Re: New to the Group

If you click on the field guide, then public transportation, there are some good ideas, although not real good You can get to and from cascade locks and timberline lodge. You might be able to get to santiam pass. Maybe they'll let you out but not pick you up If you use Uber report back, it would be ...
