Re: lunar eclipse wednesday morning 5/26/2021

The once every 28 days new moon looks a little different

The eclipse has more red light bending around the earth so the moon has a weird red color

Still, lunar eclipses aren't all that spectacular or rare

Solar eclipses are better

Re: Rogue Wolf Loop (2021-06-12)

yeah, same here, I was thinking no-see-um lake wasn't such a good destination

I think maybe those are midges that show up right about now. For maybe a month. Maybe the month of July. Small biting flies that aren't deterred by DEET. At 5000 feet elevation or so in the Cascades.

Re: disappointing lifespan for shoes

In 1970s I had Danner all leather shoes. They lasted forever. And they were heavvvvvy. And my feet sweat a lot in them - I put Snowseal on them so they were waterproof but not breathable.

I don't think you'll ever again get lost going to poop

Hopefully, some people have read this and won't have to learn this lesson the hard way

Re: Mill Creek Wilderness 5/28-31/2021 (and lessons in getting lost)

Thanks for the report and the lesson learned. That area gets pretty hot in the summer. I was there a couple months ago and it was cold. Re: disappointing lifespan for shoes

yeah, mesh shoes let sand and grit inside

I have switched to leather boots. Danner Mountain 600. 22 ounces for one size 12 shoe, so a bit heavy. They have a GoreTex like lining. They weren't very breathable until I prayed them with Danner waterproofing spray.

Re: How do I remove a post?

for each post there are ikons to the right, and above. One for "edit", one for "delete", one for "report", one for "warn user", one for "information", and one for "quote" Do you see all of those or am I special so the only one that sees them? I just clicked the "delete" ikon. It asked me if I was su...
