Re: PCT thru hikers and Wilderness permits
maybe when they do the PCT thru hike permit the FS gets the data? A bigger hole is the restrictions in the Central Cascades wilderness areas. Local hikers are extremely limited in the numbers allowed. No restrictions on thru hikers. Last year I did a Three Sisters trip. Almost nobody was there local...

Re: Road conditions request
I dunno, I drove a pickup but I think a regular car would be fine if you go slow
yeah, unexpected large potholes
If your windows are dirty and/or the sun is at a worse angle it's harder to see those pot holes

Re: Road conditions request
that's 2329. The road from Takhlakh Lake to Divide Camp and Killen Creek. I just did that also. In my pickup. That's worse than 21, 23, or 2150 to snowgrass flat
Amazing you could do those in a mini

Re: Road conditions request
A couple weeks ago I did 21 from hwy 12 to Snowgrass Flat trailhead - not too bad. Some potholes and washboarding. I would think almost any vehicle would work, but I drove a 2WD Tacoma pickup. Then I did 21 to 2160. I drove about a mile down 2160 towards Walupt Lake. It's paved. Weird that that road...

Re: New & Increased Fees in Mt. Hood National Forest
Related to this: https://www.outsideonline.com/culture/opinion/national-parks-solutions/ It talks about how National Parks are being over-run. Requiring reservations which are limited. One problem with this is it favors people with high speed internet and flexible schedule who can get in at the exac...

Re: Tugman State Park trail maintenance
I can see how the authorities would be skeptical of users maintaining trail People sometimes hack vegetation, or create a maze of "trails". Well intentioned maintenance can actually be damaging. The main thing I do is throw branches off trails. Especially if there are a bunch that are difficult to w...

Re: Central Cascades permit changes
You should have told the ranger that you knew there was a fee but refused to pay it. Give me a ticket and I'll fight it in court

Re: Gifford Pinchot fees
Ramona Falls has a huge parking area with rows of cars
Top Spur has a few spaces sideways, then just along the road. No where near as much capacity. Nothing is near the trailhead so people hike from the trailhead, not as much need for an outhouse.
