Re: North Shore Trail 03-11-2024
I grew up in Cottage Grove and went to college in Eugene. It’s been really fun seeing all your Eugene area trip reports. Especially as I now live in NE Tennessee. I’ve been intrigued by the Eugene to Cascades Crest trail idea for years. The recently connected Corvallis to the Coast trail has me hope...

Re: Across the Alpine Lakes, Again: Snoqualmie Pass to Icicle Creek
Thank you for the time and energy you put in when writing up these trip reports, I would read a George Martin sized book of them! Having moved away from the PNW a year and a half ago this was such an enjoyable tour! Looking forward to the next one.

Hunchback Mountain
Did a car shuttle hike from Cool Creek to the Zigzag Ranger Station by going up to Devil's Peak Lookout and then all the way across Hunchback Mountain to the Ranger Station. Hunchback Mountain Trail is extremely difficult to follow due to severe blowdown of large trees for about a mile from the Gree...

Re: Haas Ridge: 7/1/22
I've really enjoyed your trip reports from this area, thanks for taking the time to publish them. It sounds like you also enjoy having a map and filling in all the trails as you go. I'm currently working on covering all of the Appalachian Trail as it goes through Tennessee after moving here a year a...

Portland Hiker Moved East
It's been just over a year since my wife's career took us from Portland to Johnson City, TN. I knew nothing about this part of the country but quickly discovered I could get to multiple Appalachian Trail trailheads in less than 30 minutes. What follows is a smattering of the hikes I've done through ...

Re: Eagle Creek - Herman Creek Loop: 1/3/21
That's an impressive loop! The potholes sure look different compared to July of 2019. I spent a couple days clearing the trail in that section with the PCTA, the quietest Eagle Creek experience I've ever had.

Re: Best non-technical 6,000'+ peaks for winter?
I grew up in Cottage Grove, welcome! There are great training trails nearby, although not in the mountaineering category. The trail system along Bryce creek is fantastic, Adams Way Trail and Crawfish Lake Trail are great for getting in shape. The Hardesty Mountain trail system on Highway 58 just eas...

Re: Elk Killed by Tree?
Did the elk hear the tree falling? Did it make a noise if the elk is dead?

Cowhorn Mountain - 8-9-20
Earlier in the week I joined my Mom for a couple of hikes out of Sullivan's Southern Oregon book. I grew up riding snowmobiles around Diamond Lake and Crescent Lake every winter. Hiking up the prominent peaks that I spent plenty of time admiring as a kid has been a lot of fun. The PCT supply cache a...
