Re: mosquito heaven on Mt Adams
In a tie for worst bugs I’ve experienced are the Sioux Hustler trail in the Boundary Waters and that area of Mt. Adams. Once I came down Killen Creek - running all the way- and jumped in the creek at the parking area.

Re: Olympic Mountains - August 2022 (Gray Wolf, Dosewallips, Cameron)
Great report of an outstanding area. I wish the NPS would repair the road into the Dosewallips trailhead. Those extra miles walking along the old road make access from the SE exhaustive, although it keeps away the hordes.

A couple of miles further east on Highway 30 toward Scappoose is a mountain bike park in an old clear cut off Rocky Point Road. I suggest you check it out.

Re: Burlington Creek and Ennis Creek 4-15-22
First, the BikePortland website hardly provides a neutral discussion of bikes in Burlington Forest. The personal invective in the comments directed at neighbors is quite stunning. To counter the BPDX arguments, I'd suggest looking at the other side: https://saveforestparkcorridor.wordpress.com Secon...

Re: Burlington Creek and Ennis Creek 4-15-22
Metro went through a lengthy public meeting program concerning the McNamee property. This property was purchased with public money to save habitat and wild creatures. Anecdotal testimony of neighbors who live near the forest revealed that it is the home of bear, cougar, elk, coyote and eagles. Metro...

Re: Mt. Adams High Camp, Sept. 10-12, 2021
Remember that the glacial lake is basecamp for the North Cleaver climbing route. It looks pretty daunting but actually was described to me as a class 2 hike - as long as you stay on route. It's a rock route once the snow melts, as it has this year, until you get all the way up to the ice cap, I thi...

Re: Stuart and horseshoe lake
Love that area!
When I hiked up to Horseshoe from Lake Stuart, the trail was easy to see but it was a "green belay."
This is Horseshoe Lake in August 2005.

An urn containing remains of C.E. Rusk, early explorer of Mt. Adams, are on top of the Castle.

Re: Mt Adams Loop Gap Attempt
can you go cross country from high camp to above foggy flat, on to Devil's Garden? That's the "easy" part- mostly trail the whole way. But there is a difficult stream crossing right after Foggy Flat- the Muddy Fork- that's fast and deep. Last time I crossed it, I threw my boots and pack to the othe...
