FYI: I'm not seeing it in Google Maps but Google Earth has updated imagery to include the Gorge fire. Interesting looks.

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

I'm pretty sure this is the Wyeth parking lot in Jerry's pictures. Steps up on soapbox...uh hum..... ahhhhhhhhhhhhh They're spending tens of millions of dollars on building/rebuilding the HCRHW and this lot has only 25 parking spaces.........and..........and.........and most of the people using this...

Re: Book about trail history?

-The source I like best to understand trail history is old maps. 1909-1911 Mt Hood Topo Some examples: pic1.jpg.png If you look at the full map, notice that there is no Multnomah Basin road in 1909 nor any trails shown in the Wahkeena/Multnomah loop area. Those trails likely were built around 1915. ...

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

On the "pave more of the Gorge for parking" plan (just kidding... sort of...), the problem with putting that parking at Multnomah Falls is that there's only one lodge, one Benson Bridge and one 6-foot trail to the top of the falls. In the proven "build it and they will come" school of transportatio...

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

Or you could just add more parking................. Government builds it (with our tax dollars) and then goes away. No fees, fines, or complicated make work. Here's my plan, took about 10 minutes to put together and adds 100 parking spots. I've named the concept the "Peabody Parking Expansion Plan" ...

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

Well, again, that might be Tom's opinion, but there is no official TKO pronouncement, as yet, on the parking fees, and there is nothing in the archive to suggest such a motion was passed. It has never been mentioned when I've been at a meeting. There is a TKO group working on slate of suggestions f...

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

Convert the Historic Highway into a one way street west to east. Turn the unused lane (the one closest to the waterfalls) into parallel parking and a walkway for the entire length between Vista House and Ainsworth. There has been talk of making the Historic Highway one-way but there is a conflict o...

Re: ODOT proposes fees for Gorge waterfall corridor

"I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail." -Abraham Maslow "ODOT gonna ODOT" - unknown millennial Yep, the gorge gets crowded and once again every government agency wants to "fix" the issue using their particular tool. In this case it...

Re: Eagle Creek Fire video

Forest on Fire > What great story telling. The fire had started on September 2, 2017 and two days later I was in the gorge taking video from the Washington side. That was the day the east winds kicked up and the fire took off. Portions of my video was used in Forest on Fire. I'm mentioned in the "ad...
