Re: Target shooting near McGee Creek TH
I also thought they would have chosen a parking area off Lolo Pass Rd. It made me wonder whether they were trying to make a point, which was a factor in our decision to drive to the other TH. There is a pretty rough section of road that goes further up from the main parking area at the McGee Creek T...

Target shooting near McGee Creek TH
Just a heads up for anyone headed up to the McGee Creek Trailhead on Mt. Hood... A friend and I were up at the trailhead around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, when we heard a significant number (50+) of gunshots in the area. We hiked up the McGee Creek Trail for a half-mile or so toward the Timbe...

Re: Avalanche Valley (Adams) trail conditions
I didn't end up doing the Avalanche Valley trip last year, but hope to do it one of these years. I enjoyed Brad's trip report and look forward to reading yours, too.

Re: Mt. Adams High Camp, Sept. 10-12, 2021
We considered continuing in the direction of Devil's Garden, but it was relatively slow going and we wanted to check out the area on the other side of High Camp. I didn't see anything between our turnaround point and Red Butte (which was our point of reference and is more or less below Devil's Garde...

Mt. Adams High Camp, Sept. 10-12, 2021
A friend and I spent Friday and Saturday nights at High Camp on the northwest side of Mt. Adams. We left Portland around 2:00 p.m. and arrived at the Killen Creek Trailhead around 5:00 p.m. on Friday to find only two other cars. I had read some reports about the road being bad, but the gravel sectio...

Avalanche Valley (Adams) trail conditions
A friend and I are considering a trip to Avalanche Valley on Mt. Adams in a week. Anyone have any intel on trail conditions? We would likely start at Muddy Meadows, probably camp two nights at Foggy Flat, and dayhike to/from Avalanche Valley on the middle day. Thanks

Re: Timberline Trail
You might also consider the loop around South Sister. A friend and I did the trip over four days several years ago and loved it. A link to my trip report is below, but you would need to check that the trails are all open following the fires last summer. https://www.oregonhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.p...

Re: Camping suggestions on PCT Mathieu Lakes to Sisters Mirror Lake?
Husband Lake is another option for you. A friend and I camped there several years ago. I wouldn't say it was great, but it was a perfectly fine place to spend a night. Here is my trip report: https://www.oregonhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=22338&p=169776#p169776 I recall thinking that both Ei...

Re: Vista Ridge to Elk Cove
Just found this on the USFS website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mthood/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD511880 It is pretty vague as to where and when roads in that area will be closed, but it does mention long delays and temporary closures as a basis for recommending that folks headed to Lost Lake take a...

Re: Vista Ridge to Elk Cove
I didn't see a gate; it looked like an orange and white construction barricade. There was other road construction going on in the area and a flagger stopped us a bit before the Lost Lake turnoff. I don't know why the road was barricaded or how long it will be closed. Other folks seemed surprised by ...
