The mounds are on a big bulldozed landing now completely covered with blackberries. I suspect some kind of development was planned here years ago. They're probably just piles of dirt or gravel.

Excellent report. It's really thawing out there. I wouldn't have expected to get so far up without some difficulty.

Keep checking snow levels. You should be able to hike the river trail between the ranger station and Belknap Springs. However, upstream there will be more snow although you may able able to do short in and outs to the waterfalls.

We revised this over a year ago to reflect those changes and no longer include Altamont.
