Re: PCT Sections E, F, and G

Hunting is permitted in wilderness and always has been. Right now, there are several hunters' camps inside the Indian Heaven Wilderness, for example. I don't find this a particular problem - the same rules apply: wear bright colors and be particularly conspicuous and noisy around dawn and dusk, perh...

Re: Kings Mountain Junior Loop Hike - Yikes!

Kings Mountain Junior actually was a real challenge before the Wilson River Trail was built. Always better to go up bushwhacky type ridges than down, especially if it's your first time. It's really a fairly unspectacular variation on Kings Mountain, for those who seek a bit of a diversion that takes...

Excellent, epic backpack. It certainly trumps the Wonderland Trail in terms of obscurity! Thanks for the report!

Re: Find a Hike Region AND Options

I read "All Season" as 12 months a year. For backpacking, that means the Coast and little else. Even most of the areas listed in "winter and spring backpacking options" for winter are not reliably backpackable in winter (officially about Dec. 21st - Mar. 20th). Generally, I see "All Season" as "snow...

Re: Chenamus Lake-Acker Lake-Placid Lake Loop 9-15-22

Wow, seeing a marten at all is rare, let alone the show you got. I've seen a few marten but always on the ground. There was one memorable sighting in a meadow near Umbrella Falls where one was pouncing up and down trying to scare up rodents. We heard this one climbing the tree before we saw it, so ...

Thanks for the report and the photos. I guess anyone wanting to get in there using dry land will have to blaze new trails.

Chenamus Lake-Acker Lake-Placid Lake Loop 9-15-22

This was an outing with a friend to the west side of the Indian Heaven Wilderness. At the Placid Lake Trailhead, there were several hunters’ camps with big rigs and RVs, obviously set up for an extended period. However, we met no bowmen on the trails. There was a low ceiling of cloud over Placid Lak...
