Re: Cloud Cap CG to Lamberson Butte

Thanks for the debut trip report! It's great to see clear blue skies well into August. Sort of missed that these past few years.

Re: Harris Ranch Trail 8-14-22

Nice little overnighter - glad you found some solitude. When we were there a few years ago, some campers were feeding the resident giant salamander with bits of crawdad.

That RV is rather creepy. Will have to be dragged out at taxpayer expense, I suppose.

Re: Lewis River campsites

I've done Curly Creek Falls to Crab Creek Trailhead as a day hike and bike (stashed the bike at Crab Creek). The ride back was not difficult even though it's mostly uphill from Crab Creek to the Speed Trailhead. There ought to be a campsite at Cussed Hollow Creek (one would think), but I honestly do...

Re: Franklin Ridge 8/8/2022

I think TKO crews are going up there. I was on some of the first crews that cleared Franklin Ridge after the fire - but only after two solid summers of growth. We had six-foot willows and cherries growing up in the middle of the trail and thimbleberries spreading their rhizomes with abandon. The lac...

Thanks for the report. It looks pretty up there right now (and will continue to be so well into the fall).

Re: Elkhorn Crest Trail

Lovely. Thanks for the report. I would have been there same time as you, but I have my lower left leg stitched up and have to wait a while before getting out on the trail again.

She was adamant that a private party doing that would be violating the conservation easement.
That makes sense. Good you checked. I wonder who the team was that originally cleared out that trail.

Re: Gifford Pinchot fees

Paid, experienced, seasonal trail crews come into the CRGNSA, Gifford Pinchot, Mt. Hood, and all other national forests in about April and work into September/October. Budgets have been cut and trail destruction, mainly by weather and wildfires and their aftermath (rampant vegetation, constant slide...

Re: Tugman State Park trail maintenance

I've done that Eel Lake hike and put it in our Field Guide: https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Eel_Lake_Hike Trailkeepers of Oregon has work crews on the Coast and may be able to take this on. The problem is that the section you are talking about is on private land. This was a "conservation ea...
