Re: Which Trail/Campsite is this?

Yep, that dark stripe is Mississippi Head, so that’s my assumption too.

Awesome summary. I did a double take on your first pic as I have the same one of me from Saturday. Haha.

were people wearing their covid masks?
I'd say about 90% were wearing masks, and people were pretty considerate about doing their best with spacing by stepping to the side when possible and donning masks during passings, etc.

GoalTech, that's a name that I haven't heard since I read Wired's PCT blog from the PCT, in 2017 I think. She actually inspired me to get back out there after a 20 year hiatus. Ha...guess who I texted first about the opening? Wired. haha. I'll let her know about your inspiration. Thanks for the com...

I forgot to mention about the parking. When we left everything was packed out to the hatchery with people parallel parking on the frontage road. I imagine it’s worse since no one is really carpooling with Covid.

Re: Eagle Creek trail reopens \o/ plus other reopenings

I hiked the entire plateau this past summer. That closed section (that wasn’t marked closed) was the best trail. The worst were the two on the north and south edge of the plateau...GPS pretty much required to stay near the “trail”. The PCT was in pretty good shape all the way through, burnt most up ...

Cool. I’m looking forward to hiking through the park next year on my multi-year thru hike of the PCT.

Re: "Free Air Freezing Level": Useful for predicting temperatures?

Another method is to go to weather.gov and browse on the map to your camping site and click on it to get a localized forecast to the GPS location. I’m not sure how they do it, I guess it would be an algorithm off the local weather stations based on altitude and such? I find it to be reasonably accur...

Re: Circumnavigate Mt. Adams

I don't recall, usually, I have pretty good luck up high (like up high on a glacier like that), but I don't recall if I had it or not. (And I'm speaking for Verizon which I find to be the best). AT&T is usually worse and T-Mobile is typically the worst in the backcountry I find (anecdotally).
