Re: July 2019 Backpacking with Kids
For your situation, I would recommend Pamelia Lake in the Mt. Jefferson wilderness. Just at 2 hours from Eugene. Enjoyable hike in along Pamelia Creek, about 2.3 miles in and 800 ft elevation gain. It is low enough elevation that the bugs shouldn't be bad in July, although this year with a healthy s...

Re: Henline Mountain Lookout w/snow

Re: Pamelia limited entry zone as basecamp
Cool! One point of clarification, the directions to the Table area are in the Heart of Jeff loop in the "101 Hikes in the Majestic Mt Jefferson Region". He has even clearer directions in the book "Off the Beaten Trail: 50 fantastic unknown hikes in NW Oregon and SW Washington", which is what I was t...

Re: Pamelia limited entry zone as basecamp
Camping- Pamelia Lake is going to be the busiest. There is a giant campsite right as you approach the lake and last time I went in there were multiple families with kids, which is wonderful to see, but perhaps, eh, noisier. Re: Land use in the U.S. map
Good stuff, what amazes me is the urban growth and the amount of land used to support livestock.

Re: Butterfly Kaleidoscope on mountain tops
Backpacked to Pamelia Lake on June 30th - July 1st and there were tons hanging out on the exposed shore. They would swarm but also sit still. My daughter was enamored with them! Thanks for the ID.

2500' in 1.6 miles
Hike it and you'll likely have this stair-stepper to yourself!
