Re: Moffett Mystery Spring

It's located near the mouth of Moffett Creek and south perhaps 0.15mi away from the bike trail. So probably not related to the OCRH, unless it was some old pullout or campground...or...?? Approx. loc: UTM 10 579849mE 5052521mN. Can't quite get these co-ordinates dialed in. This is south of the new ...

Re: Trout Lake Ice Cave

If I recall correctly the caves run about 50 yards in one direction and maybe 10 yards the other way. Don't forget to check out some of the collapsed lava tubes that are nearby forming interesting canyons and bridges. A bit bigger than that, but not Ape Cave dimensions, of course. Probably depends ...

Re: A different view of Upper McCord and Elowah Falls

It seems to me the "original" or CCC-improved trail from the former falls-access point from the east side of the HCRH McCord Creek bridge. Old "original" side-wall rock masonry along that trail. Super neat to me! Some trail-gnome seems to have "unearthed" it in just the past year or so. ! I've been...

I know in other areas of the Gorge, you are usually OK as long as there are no "No Parking" signs and as long as you do not block the gates. Here, I have no idea. I'd probably park down at Rooster Rock and walk back. There may even be a trail. That is an area I need to explore more.

Re: Rooster Rock Wagon Road / Wire Trail - March 21, 2014

It's the road leading off the NW end of the Portland Women's Forum Viewpoint on the old Columbia River Highway... I hope to get a current map of the road up soon. I believe you said you used to drive down it back in the early 80s on the other thread, forestkeeper. I should have added to the initial ...

Re: Bushwhack below Crown Point 2-27-2014

I was out there about a month later with my son... I was trying to post a reply on this thread, but was having some technical issues, so I just started a new thread where I talked a little about the history of this old wagon road... Rooster Rock Wagon Road / Wire Trail - March 21, 2014 ( http://www....

Rooster Rock Wagon Road / Wire Trail - March 21, 2014

I was going to post this as a reply to this (Bushwhack below Crown Point 2-27-2014: http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18251&hilit=Bushwhack+below+Crown+Point ), but was having some technical issues, so I decided to start a new thread. For the basics and some good track maps, p...

Re: Bike path from Wyeth to Hood River Endorsement by OTC

I'm keen to get back in to photograph some of the abandoned sections of the old Columbia River Hwy before they're reclaimed by this project. To date Nature has been quietly doing her own reclaiming of these areas and the road bed, in places, is completely covered in a layer of moss. I've been doing...

Re: Mitchell Point in Search of Wagon Road

Where we differ is when you made the jag NE and then NW, we went straight and ended up at the steep hillside. I had started to go your way when hubby said no, it goes this way. Did you see the section of old telephone wire hanging in the trees just by the slide? At least I think that's what it was....

Re: Mitchell Point in Search of Wagon Road

Approximate Route of Wagon Road Over Mitchell Point.

My GPS data was all over the place, so this is the best I can get right now looking at that data combined with the Google Earth Imagery.
