FS: lots of gear

Doing a gear closet cleaning! Western Mountaineering SummerLite 32 degree bag. Long left Hand Zip. I am selling it because I switched to a quilt. This bag is in excellent condition. I bought it new about 2 years ago, but have only used it on a few overnight trips. Includes original storage bag. $250...

Re: Escalante in March?

We spent 9 or 10 days hiking around the Escalante in early april last year. The weather was perfect and the water was not too deep. Off the top of my head we spent 3 days hiking Death Hallow, 3 for Coyote gulch, then stayed a few nights in town and day hiked a number of slot canyons. The springtime ...

Re: Sierra High Route Thru-Hike 8/9-9/5

I completely agree about Stanton pass. It required a few spiderman moves and was pretty steep coming down. That sounds like a nightmare being up on Snow Tongue Pass with lightning! That's a sketchy spot to have to rush down. My wife and I were kind of bummed to learn Andrew Skurka made his maps avai...

Re: Sierra High Route Thru-Hike 8/9-9/5

Ya that ford at Twin Island lakes would be sketchy in early season. I like how Roper just recommends to "ford" the Lake . We hiked past Twin Island Lakes first thing in the morning and were happy not to have to get our feet wet! We had a hard time with that dark colored slate around Ritter and ...

Re: Sierra High Route Thru-Hike 8/9-9/5

I was surprised to see your trip report! My wife and I just got back last week from hiking the SHR from 9/5-9/22. Ran into one other couple hiking end to end and a few others section hiking it. We had the same experience as you joining the JMT after Frozen Lake pass and seeing more people in 5 minut...

Re: Three Sisters Circumnavigation July 29-31

Maybe a loop like this- Start at Pole Creek trail head and hike a few miles to a nice campsite at Soap creek, the next day hike up to Camp lake/Chambers Lake, explore the area a bit. If you feel up to it traverse cross country aiming toward Broken Top until you reach Green Lakes pass, spend a night ...

Re: South Sister Snow for this weekend?

I climbed South Sister on the 30th. There is still a bit of snow lingering half way up the climb but it does not feel exposed. You don't need any kind of traction device or ice axe. If you head up this weekend and your friend feels nervous she could hang out where the snow starts and enjoy the view ...

Re: Three Sisters Circumnavigation July 29-31

There was a small trickle of snow melt at the top of the pass. There was another snow melt creeklet along the trail on the just north side of the pass.

Here is the north of the pass:
