Re: Silver Star Clearcuts..!
As upset as I was at the idea of the Discover Pass, and still am as it regards to DNR lands. It has been of great use for State Parks, I've used my pass a good 8 times since July 1 at Cape Disappointment, several times at Battleground Lake and at Lake Wenatchee. So use of State Parks has its bonuses...

Re: Big Hollow to Observation Peak and Sister Rocks: 8-6-11
I was up there the weekend prior. Some of the worst mosquitos I've ever seen up top of Observation. I'd have a couple dozen actually landing on each arm at once. It was torture, but the views made up for it. One of the best views of Adams anywhere via a trail.

Re: Goat Rock trails/snow condition?
From the top of Observation Peak on Friday I'd agree. LOTS of snow in that area. Looks like mid June.Grannyhiker wrote:Condition report on nwhikers.net last week for Snowgrass Flat: all snow, no grass.
As seen in a brief glimpse from I-5 today: Lots of snow up there!

Unreal. It's amazing how much my plans have had to change because of the freak spring and summer. Looking more and more like Trapper Creek.

It's a tough year. The Wallowas might be good, but the passes will probably still be snowy. We were going to do the Three Sisters loop next week. Instead, we're headed up to the central Pasayten for a six-day trip, heading north from Billy Goat Trailhead. The trip is described in this article http:...

Indian Heaven Snow and Mosquito Report?
Has anybody been up to Indian Heaven recently? Mosquitos out? Snow?
Want to head out there next weekend. Hoping it'll work out, but if snow is still lingering over swaths of trail, any other sugggestions?

That June Lake data is unreal. The fact that 6 inches of snow is still lingering that low down is phenomenal. 176 inches annual precip? Am I reading that correctly?

Re: since its raining in july
Beware that right below the summit of Silver Star, just before the west end of the Bluff Mountain trail, last Friday there was 2-4 feet of snow over the trail in a rather steep section of the mountain. It's pretty rough going getting over it, so be prepared for the possibility of that still lingerin...

Re: Aldrich Butte trailhead
It's never been maintained as a trailhead. The Bonneville Hot Springs TH has always been free though. I've never done it, but it seems like a nicer spot than under power lines.
