I would think by mid August it should be a lot better! The folks we talked to that were camped out had mentioned the bugs were not as bad in the middle of the day.christabrews wrote: ↑July 13th, 2020, 10:55 amHow are the bugs in mid August? I was planning on making a trip there to camp, fish, and enjoy some huckleberries!

7.11.20 Shellrock Lake Hike -- Fish are stocked!
My wife and I did a quick hike to Shellrock Lake on Saturday. We had hoped to go a bit further to the Rock Lakes, but unfortunately the bugs were out in full force and my wife is a delectable treat, so we turned around after making it almost to the other side of the lake. The trail was in good condi...

FS: New Kelty PK50 Backpack, size S/M, $125 OBO
Brand new. Thought I might want to use it for travel and decided it has too many bells and whistles. This would be a great travel pack. Or maybe a beginner backpack for someone who doesn't mind the weight. It's 50L. As seen here: https://kelty.com/pk-50/ This one is the Grey with Lime Green accents....

FS: Gossamer Gear Kumo Backpack, Size M, $150 Firm
Brand new, never been used. Too big for me (I normally wear a small in GG packs). It's a size Medium. I work in Old Town, can meet most days, or I live in Milwaukie and can meet around there too. Accept Paypal or Venmo. I have photos I can send if needed, but basically it's the same as on the websit...

Re: Heavy gear
Going light is one of the best things I ever did! Next Adventure has presentations on going light sometimes. I've given one for women specifically, but there is usually a general one at least once or twice a year.

Re: Safety Check-in
Here's another way to think about it. Having a Delorme inReach SE is not for me. It's for my family and my friends to know I am okay. Yeah, I like just doing my thing when I am out in the woods and know I am going to make the right choices and not need to hit that SOS button. However, last fall when...

Re: New favorite trail snacks
Betty Lou's are amazing. I took a whole bunch of them with me to Nepal last year and they were a great snack on the trail. They are locally made here in Oregon. You can buy them online: http://www.bettylousinc.com/ or at Amazon: http://amzn.to/1Opu6F8 I discovered them at the Gluten Free Festival la...

Re: Tent or Hammock?
I've been hanging for the past three years and I love it.
I've got my kit down to about the weight of my ground set up, but it does take work and if you want top of the line stuff, your initial investment is going to be quite a bit.
I would check out hammockforums.net for the best info.

Re: Massdrop, Cool Website for Gear
True, but I have gotten some cool stuff so far on this site...of course, it helps that I also love Audio gear, EDC gear, and Writing stuff too!!! :) Also, any site that offers these kinds of discounts is not going to let you look without getting an email...tis the price of being online these days. :)
