Re: Afib

For almost two years now I've hiked with an unpredictable heart arrhythmia called SVT (supra-ventricular tachycardia) as a result of having emergency heart valve replacement surgery. As an avid hiker and snowshoer I also had anxiety over lifetime blood thinners (for mechanical valves) and an unpredi...

Re: top 5 injuries and your first aid kit...

I carry a small first aid kit and have multiple things in my backpack that can be repurposed in an emergency. Years ago I asked the same question you pose Koda so I could be better prepared as a solo hiker. What I ultimately did was read through the wilderness first-responder and wilderness first-ai...

Re: Next Adventure return policy

I have gotten used to walking on rocky and rooty trails such as Eagle Creek, areas on Mount Hood, etc. over the last years. The new V3 in intriguing to me because it seems to have a stiffer sole. There are also other 4mm drop shoes in the New Balance line that have thicker and/or stiffer soles that ...

Re: Next Adventure return policy

When I find something that fits my feet, I immediately go back and buy another pair. Most of my hiking these days is done in minimalist shoes so fit seems to be even more important. When New Balance came out with their minimalist shoe, I found a place closing out the V1 and shamelessly bought four p...

Re: Obsidian Limited Entry Area Trailhead Thefts

This was purely an FYI. If we weren't out for several days with some of our basecamp stuff with us we would have hiked anyway and left the empty glovebox and center console open. Oddly enough, neither of the vehicles still had their NW Forest Pass.

Obsidian Limited Entry Area Trailhead Thefts

Just a quick FYI for anyone thinking of going out this way in the next few weeks. We ran into several vehicles with windows smashed out, parking spaces with vehicle glass, new (?) signage at the trailhead about increased thefts in the area, and met one of the unfortunate people who had their vehicle...

Re: Car Camping Bend Area

I'm in agreement with Jerry, Metolius River has trails and nice campgrounds. Camp Sherman is the name to search on, most sites are not-reserveable so go early in the day ... the further north of Camp Sherman proper along FS14 are quieter and more secluded. They often fill last too. Good luck.

Re: Mondays with Matt.... Echo Basin 6/1

What a timely trip report for me as I was headed that way to checkout some new trails yesterday and today. The upper portion of Echo Basin was still full of blooming Elephant's Head Lousewort. The recent rains have really made the basin supper muddy even with the boardwalks. Great to finally meet yo...
