Re: Interactive COVID-19 map with county data

I just checked my gmail spam folder and found the replies to the map I posted. Sorry I did not see them sooner. I told google that msgs from this forum are not spam so hopefully I will now see alerts to any replies in a more timely manner. As Adam mentioned, the maps I produce now use the Leaflet ma...

Interactive COVID-19 map with county data

Hopefully this will help encourage everyone to continue to cooperate by staying home. Below is a link to an interactive COVID-19 map I produce as a public service. Data for the map comes directly from the same GIS (Geographic Information System) server that feeds the map produced by Johns Hopkins Un...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

Could you not use PHP (or maybe JS) to POST those Gmap4 parameters over to GISsurfer? Yes, but.... It will be awhile before GISsurfer understands the same parameters. So at least for some period of time, Gmap4 links and embedded maps will display a message. Priority #3 - If someone clicks a Gmap4 l...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

On July 16th I will launch GISsurfer which is the Gmap4 replacement. This uses the free open-source Leaflet map API. Priority #1: Basic wildland fire maps Priority #2: Congressional district maps (Indivisible wants these) In broad strokes, my goal is to replicate most of the Gmap4 features. Hmmm.......

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

I finally heard back from Google. Yes, they are allocating me more free API downloads. No, it is not nearly enough. For more info you can click “Gmap4 news” in the lower left corner of the map. https://mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php Work starts today to produce a new map using Leaflet. The new name ...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

Here is a one of Google's demo maps. You can view the source code. https://mappingsupport.com/test/google_traffic.html I used Firefox and opened the map. Then I did: 1. Click 3 bars in upper right 2. Click web developer 3. Click network 4. Reload the page. For the reload, a display below the map sho...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

The feds have a free seamless basemap. It is their digital topo map. See it below. As you zoom in more detailed data appears. For more info on how they are crowd sourcing this map see https://nationalmap.gov/TheNationalMapCorps/index.html https://mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=45.534010,-122.6150...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

I have not looked at the kind of info Google requires to get a key. But since keys are intended for software developers I am guessing most people will be spooked by the questions and/or unable to answer. Plus there is the requirement to give Google your credit card # and agree to be charged if you e...

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

Also Google's revised terms of service say don't do stuff to try and get around the much lower allocation of free API downloads. https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/terms 3.2.4 Restrictions Against Misusing the Services. (e) No Circumventing Fees. Customer will not circumvent the applicable Fees....

Re: Gmap4 - Enhanced Google Map viewer with topographic maps

Won't you guys still need basemaps or a server with Leaflet? What's the plan there? Gmap4 uses 3 things from Google: 1. Their 4 basemaps. Street, terrain, aerial with no labels and aerial with labels 2. Geocoding. This runs the Gmap4 search feature 3. Directions. The feds have a decent enough seaml...
