Clackamas Riverside Trail

We’ve been long absent from the Clackamas/Collowash rivers and decided to head out and check out the old haunts. Greatly surprised at the lack of trash and destruction we were expecting from our last few drives out into that area. We re-discovered some old fishing holes and then decided to try out t...

Cape Perpetua - Easter Escape Hike

Easter Sunday morning we started with a wonderful power-breakfast before heading out to complete the Cook’s Ridge / Gwynn Creek Loop hike in the Cape Perpetua Scenic area. Only a couple cars parked at the trailhead when we started by 10 am and head promptly UP the ridge trail. Immediately we entered...

Re: Cottonwood Canyon Pinnacles along the John Day River (3/30/18)

Beautiful! We just took a late season overnighter and were surprised the campground was still FULL!
The John Day River, however.... not so much!

Re: Urban Hiking the 4T Trail

We made it a 4T +B (bus from home to save driving/parking hassles). What to do with your friends from Europe? Show 'em PORTLAND. :D We did the longer trail route keeping to the woods. It was odd going from warm/sweaty to the inside of the hospital to find the Tram. My walk mapping app recorded our r...

PCT hikers and the shutdown

seems so unfair to spend so much time/effort and have to face TWO deterrents at the end!

Re: Badger Creek Wilderness Adventures

Hey Splintercat - the bridge would actually cross the Gumjuwack creek (it's becoming a small canyon actually) and a day hiker we met said the bridge was much smaller than the original one. I'm not sure where they are doing the "removal" the sign we saw at the Bonny Crossing campground where we start...

Re: Backpacking + Fly Fishing

It's a bit late, but the Badger Creek Wilderness east of Mt. Hood is wonderful. Open, oak and grasses, a creek to hike along/fish and the lake is 12 miles in (if you want to go that far). There are a number of camp sites along the trail and nice pools to fish/swim in. My husband wants to go back wit...

Re: Indian Heaven / Lemei Rock 25-Aug-2012

You might have seen my small group at Junction Lake .. four people and one small dog all passed out in the sunshine!

We spent two wonderful nights out - no skeeters and sans-rainfly at night. Scored big on huckleberries too!
