Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

This is a major victory. There's so way to spin it: The FS felt enormous public pressure and knew that litigation was coming. They also knew that they would probably lose in court, so they backed down. Good decision by whoever got sensible about this. As to the current plan about having to go to rec...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

Keith, does this mean we can send in written comments for the Keizer meeting? I can't make it to the Bend one due to a work conflict. Yes, you can send written comments for any of the RAC meetings. Send them to the three coordinators: lisa.[email protected].gov [email protected].gov Jennifer.[email protected].g...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

More RAC meetings to make oral comments by attending or calling in. In theory, these are the last public meetings before the recommendation goes for final approval. If you join any of these, please PM me, as I'd like to hear a summary. Bend RAC, Jan. 22, 2020, 6pm (call-in option available) 6:15-6:3...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

In order for the Forest Service to finalize these fees, they must obtain approval from a "Resource Advisory Committee." That committee will take oral public comments on Tuesday, January 14 in Keizer. It would be great, if as many people as possible attended and spoke at this meeting. In order to res...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

For more fun reading, here is the handbook the FS purports to be following on this issue. https://www.fs.fed.us/cgi-bin/Directives/get_dirs/fsh?2309.13!.. Click on "Recreation Fees" document. Note that a "handbook" is not the law. The law is the FLREA. But I'd be curious if people read through the h...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

The Forest Service has also stated that it will release a "management plan" on this issue (with an undefined release date). As of today, we are roughly 2/3 through the comment period (Oct. 9-Jan.10) and we still can't review or submit comments on the management plan. In addition, the Forest Service ...

Re: Central Cascades permit fees announced

The final Open House is next Thursday, Nov. 21 in Eugene. We need a good turnout. I'm going down from Portland.

How do we publicize this in Eugene?

Eugene:
Thursday, November 21, 6:00-7:30 pm
Hilyard Community Center

Re: More Fees Coming to a Trail Near You

I edited my earlier post about the politics of this to clarify what I was trying to say. I don’t think it matters much that the language in the RNR about charging “individuals” came from other legislation. The fact is that this language is now in the RNR, Wyden and others are backing it, and they ne...

Re: More Fees Coming to a Trail Near You

If anyone can explain how the language for charging "individuals" snuck in this legislation, I would love to know. Here's one theory (and it's just a theory): Lobbyists who stand to gain from the legislation put this language in the bill. Think that's far-fetched? Look at the facts: The website recr...
