Re: (Return to) Snowy Tamanawas Falls (Dec 26)

Hah, thanks Tom. I've visited the falls a number of times in the spring so I know all too well about the spray.

I'm definitely getting the itch to visit the falls during the winter.

Re: (Return to) Snowy Tamanawas Falls (Dec 26)

Dumb question- in this report as well as the one from a few days ago, this is the "closest" photo of the falls. The summer trail continues just a little further for an unobscured view of the falls. Any reason why you didn't go to the end of the summer trail? Avy danger? I know the cross slopes are a...

Re: Favorite lenses for landscapes?

Speaking as a fellow Pentax shooter, I really love the Pentax 12-24 for my ultra wides. The second lens in my bag is the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4. You might want to consider that one instead of the Pentax 17-70. First, thd Sigma does have a macro mode on it and second, the wide end is f2.8 so it is fast e...

Re: Sandy River bridge on Ramona Falls Trail

While I can't say to what degree this impacts any replacement project, the Sandy River is a designated Wild and Scenic River and that designation adds another level/stage of analysis to any project which could potentially impact said river. In other words, because it is the Sandy, the FS likely must...

There's also the Radian 2, which recently went live on Kickstarter:

Re: Timberline snow info...

Well, here's roughly the same view, 2 days earlier, from the summit of Bald Mountain. It shows a bit more towards the west. Couldn't do much about the clouds!

I only discovered the area about 2 weeks before my trip down. Anyways, I finally finished processing my photos from Big Bottom (and the old growth forest on the Salmon River). Here's a link for that.

Re: Timberline snow info...

Well, this photo is from 5/7 from Bald Mountain looking towards the mountain: http://www.smugmug.com/photos/i-wZ5PcGD/0/L/i-wZ5PcGD-L.jpg I only hiked to the viewpoint so I don't know of conditions beyond the PCT/Top Spur/McNeil junction. Also, someone just posted a photo tonight of one of the Parad...
