Re: Benson Lk, Scott Mt, Hand Lk loop 8-29-2020

Hi Bob, yep that was me; small world. Were you the one I was specifically addressing... I think you folks had a poodle? Or, were you the one with heeler-looking dog and who were moving super fast (passing me up) on the Scotty Way trail? I recall seeing Maxwell Butte in the books, but didn't give it ...

Benson Lk, Scott Mt, Hand Lk loop 8-29-2020

I used to be a much more frequent hiker, but life gets in the way and I’ve only gone on a handful of hikes in recent years. Getting burnt out from life’s other “priorities” and distractions, I’ve decided to dust off the boots more often and make a concerted effort to get back on the trails. Looking ...

Re: Butte Creek Falls Closed

Too bad I didn't check this site before driving all the way over there. :( Supposedly closed until Memorial day but by the looks of that gate (which appears pretty new???) it might be an on-again/off-again situation. Hard to imagine they'd install that beast just for a short closure. I checked out A...

Re: aircraft crach site

Is 4000' in a mile steep? Yes.
Should someone who hikes "about 1200 miles a year" be able to handle it? Yes.

Either a troll or one with a hidden agenda who needs to review priorities.

Re: 1969 photo of Dog Mtn bloom and Mt St Helens

Thanks for posting; pretty cool. I LOVE how all our local museums are digitizing their archives... I've recently taken on this task for my personal photos (30 years of family, hikes, etc). Talk about a ridiculous amount of work! Had no idea the scale of this task but a little ways in and I'm guessin...

Re: Cascade Head, Macro Madness!!! 6-12-11

Wow, I enjoy your TRs as they always have outstanding shots! I'm new to the world of photography and am still trying to figure it all out. What's your setup? I did Cascade Head and Hart's last year (http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6426&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a)... any bobcat si...

Re: (Near) Death by Posthole Above Mirror Lake

Good read; thanks for taking the time to record the TR. I'd say I'm solo on at least 90% of my hikes, but always tell my wife where I can be found and leave a map for the longer excursions. So far this system has worked well enough for me. Guess my only advice is: sounds like you learned a lesson; g...

Re: Wauna Point 6-5-11

The water coming out of the Bonneville spillway is completely insane!
My wife and I ran over there a couple weeks ago for a closer look... at times the torrent must be shooting 40' high peaks of white water.

Was thinking it would be cool to see from up on Wauna.

Re: Ruckel Ridge 6.6.11

Seems like there is more than one place I'd call a 'catwalk' on that route. I agree. Years ago I came down that way and it definitely had my attention; lots of exposure! Been up it a number of times and it always seems like a non-event so not sure if I just missed it, but then again it seems like I...

Re: New WA Discover Pass effective July 1

My objection is that it becomes so unclear which pass I need, for what area, all depending on the day of the week, based on the color of my car, and what form the squirrels want me to fill out.

When did hiking become as complicated as doing my taxes? :(
