Jasper and Banff National Park Road trip

All- I figured since I saw a lack luster trip report to Banff National Park, I'd post one to share my experience. First off, since I had my 10 year old lab with me all the hikes were short...I planned this trip with him in mind. Main points: Traveled the Icefields parkway North to South, with 4 days...

Re: Yet another Wallowas trip!!

Sweet trip report Gordon! Glad you like the zPacks tent...I grabbed a Triplex last year and couldn't be happier. I think you made the right call not going down Polaris Pass...Kola could have made it fine with booties, but without them her (his?) pads would have been trashed. Great seeing the view go...

Re: Wallowas, polaris pass loop - July 9, 2019

Thanks for the report Jerry! Helpful info as I'm also headed that way in a couple weeks. Can you tell me more about the hike down from Polaris Pass? What you wrote really got my attention: "The trail down from Polaris Pass was sketchy, especially the first 100 feet or so. Fairly steep trail sideway...

Mt Adams High Camp Conditions

Thinking of headed up to High Camp on Mt Adams for the 4th of July weekend...has anyone been up there recently? I called the Ranger and it appears that the snow level is right around 5600'; High Camp is at +- 6800'. Should I expect consolidated snow, or will there be patches melted out? Thanks in ad...

Re: looking for a minimalist day pack

I just ordered a Superior Wilderness Designs 35L frameless pack for this very reason. Big enough for a couple of nights out, yet small enough for a day hike. Fair warning; their packs aren't cheap and there is a 8-12 lead time as they are custom made. I'll post a review when it comes.

Nice Chris! Mind if I ask what you're setup is to get that rad bokeh? Almost looks like an effect you'd get from of the cool lens baby offerings...

Re: Polaris Pass or Carper Pass into Wallowas mid-September

SE Ben- headed out 9/3, so about a week before you. It'd be great to meet up somewhere out there... the plan is to be at glacier lake 9/5, bag eagle cap then head to pocket lake 9/6...be at Upper Razz on 9/7 then traverse to Ice lake. I'll be with 2 others...if ya make it up. Look for a guy and gal ...

Re: Polaris Pass or Carper Pass into Wallowas mid-September

Oh god this is a late post...like 2 years late. Headed up the East Fork to Jewett Lake on day 1; Day 2 over Tenderfoot Pass to Polaris Pass and down to Frazier lake; Day 3 up to Glacier Lake, and that's where the fun started. Had planned on continuing over to the lakes basin and tagging Eagle Cap, g...

Re: Wallowas Help and Smoke Forecast

Keith- I agree the route between Upper Razz and Ice looks challenging but milage wise short...my plan is to go up to Upper Razz from Horseshoe Lake and get eyes on the route before attempting. According to the beta, there is nothing technical about the route, but sound route finding skills will be e...

Re: Tenderfoot pass to Polaris pass

Brad- thanks for your input...I ran a couple of quick tracks on Caltopo- milage wise it's a wash, but the traverse has about 600' more EG and -1000' EG loss. I know it will take more time, but the views along that ridge would be epic. I'll post a trip report regardless if I do the traverse. Last tim...
