The "Other Eagle Creek"

Hello, Looking for a in-the-shade hike for us and the dog this weekend. While we've done WildCat Mtn a bunch of times, we've not headed further south to Eagle Creek. Any recent reports from the area, especially access? I know the southern approach via Harvey Road has been problematic, and the northe...

Re: Swale Canyon Lyme Disease warning

...If I recall right, doctor said they needed to wait a month before being able to diagnose the Lyme, but there could be other things as ticks carry lots of nasty stuff. He got me some expensive meds, it's worth to play it safe... Definitely be safe. Hit it EARLY and hit it HARD with a full course ...

With Lyme disease becoming established in the NW, that is very, very true.

Re: Woman who disappeared from canyon creek campground

Here's another high profile case that received a lot of attention in the Eugene area due to the victim being a professor:

Re: Woman who disappeared from canyon creek campground

Heard from whom? Need we make aspersions in such cases rather than let the presumed-dead lie? Agreed! Corroboration, or it didn't happen. Fair enough. Just an anecdotal incident and I will remove mention by name. Kind of hard to prove either way though, right? The local case where that did happen.....

Re: Finding a body while solo hiking

Of the three people I know of still missing there over the last year, news reports hinted that Thomas Branch McAdams might have been something other than just an accident. But Alissa McCrann and Annie Schmidt were apparently just on a short afternoon hike/run, and all left from/left their cars at m...

Re: Finding a body while solo hiking

If you're out there as long as overnight without being found, would the expectation be that animals would drag you off? And that there wouldn't be a clear trace of that for searchers to find? For calibration... A deer died in our backyard a few years ago. The body was 100' away, down a ravine, two ...

Re: Dog poo sacks along trails: Why?

I started noticing this a few years ago and it's become common wherever there's a trail. After ATV's it is truly one of the stupidest outdoor trends I've ever seen. Feces decomposes. Quickly. But wrap it in plastic and it becomes a two-fold problem - preserved feces and plastic.

Re: Warrior Point, Sauvie Island - 2016/05/08

I've always wanted to go duck hunting there but I hear the lines are long for the only few blinds and its first come first served. You can apply for reservations - if successful, you're assured of a place on a specific unit. You can also show up in mid to late morning as hunters check out, and then...

Re: Strange Disappearance on Rainier’s Wonderland Trail

An update... I decided to followup on this story and learned the remains of Edwin Birch were found a little more than a year after he disappeared. The details are scant. No mention of the condition of the remains, whether there was evidence of violence, how far off the trail the remains were found, ...
