Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

Don't throw stones if you live in glass houses. If the ice is sitting in an 11,500-foot deep lake, then it can't raise the level of the ocean because it's land-locked. I'm really tired of all the name calling. The one fact that no one wants to understand is that the earth has been warming for far lo...

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

15,000 feet of ice is even more ridiculous, if you don't include a fact that may make you one of those lucky 10,000 people. I know I was when I read the other extreme fact. Face it, 15,000 feet of ice would over all but the top 14,000 feet of Everest - that's insane. What's the sniff test I was thin...

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

I just googled the information and looked for the first scientific source that discussed the amount of sea ice versus land ice. Misleading facts: land ice averages a few kilometers of thickness. That doesn't even pass the sniff test. A kilometer is 6/10ths of a mile in length, so your saying that th...

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

I can't do all the work for you. Suffice it to say, I came up with the sources to defend the facts that others thought I just simply made up. I just want you to challenge the information you repeat without challenging the information. I stated from the very beginning that I do believe the earth is w...

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

Mt. Shasta's glaciers were growing in 2008. You can do a simple google search to find quite a bit about this. However, I need to update this statistic because in 2021 there were a number of articles that noted their shrinking again. However, it was this fact in 2008 which was the basis to analyze wh...

Re: Helipad on Devils Peak?

I seem to recall the white cross being in that open are a short distance before the Cool Creek Trail reaches the Hunchback Ridge Trail. It's probably been 25 years since I've done the walk, but that's what I recall.

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

sgyoung: I wouldn't go as far as saying it was done with malice, I think it's more likely the result of wanting the model to be more accurate than it really is. It's never honest to change the actual numbers to match your predictions, but it is happening. I do find it interesting that when talking a...

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

Jerry: you inadvertently proved my point The Oregonian used to include the rain bucket for both the calendar year and water year in their weather page, and then stopped doing that when "drought" and "above average" rainfall didn't coincide. Sure, there's much discussion about how one determines if i...

Re: Sub/Alpine meadows, fires, & climate change

It interests me that by the end of May that the year-to-date rainfall exceeded the 12-month average, but when the end of the rain year (Sep 30th), that above-average amount magically appeared in the books as a drought. Lies, damn lies and statistics. I know I will be a loser to the media's continued...
