Ron, thanks for the comments and thanks for the sign work you've done. I wondered who put those up. I think most are still there.Ron Goodwin wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 12:21 pmLike the Devil on the sign. Back after the ‘91 Fire I did not do that on the 10 trail junctions and also installed them 10’ off the ground and some are still there.

Devils Rest, Monday, April 22
We didn’t have a plan for Monday but with Peter’s (Red Shorts) untimely demise we decided it would be appropriate to honor him by hiking the Devil’s Rest area and check out the new trails he’d made we hadn’t yet hiked. We arrived at the Palmer Road Jersey barriers about 10:15 and headed up, taking t...

Re: Red Shorts dies unexpectedly
Very sad news and while unexpected, particularly poignant for me since Peter and I shared the same heart related problems. I had e-mailed back and forth with him concerning this and hoped the problem was under control. We don't yet know exactly what the issue was, but I hope mdcpdx posts when he fin...

Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels
But you didn't go in there Don? ... Nope, didn't hike Trapper, we hiked Bunker hill that day. Which, BTW, was also snow free but has about a dozen new trees down. Only a couple of note, though. We love hiking Trapper Creek so drove the few miles up there to check it out. Thanks for the Trapper snow...

Re: Shovel Trail, Cabin Railroad, The Way, Li’l Devil, etc. 1-5-24
Anywho, I was curious about the trail that continues to head northwest past the bullet car. I followed it for a short while (it split again, but I kept to the right) and then it turned sharply to the east and headed downhill. I didn't want to get too far off my casual itinerary for the day so I tur...

Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels
If you are hoping to hike around Trapper Creek this warm weekend, it's a no go. 100% snow coverage a foot deep at Gov Mineral Springs area. Will be well into April before it is hikeable. trapper snow.jpg Snow is finally gone in the Trapper Creek area. Here it is as of Yesterday, April 8th: IMG_2587...

Re: Guatemala - February 2024
John,
Thanks for the great TR and photos! What a grand adventure. After exploring Chichen Itza over thirty years ago and reading more about the Maya, I've wanted to see Tikal and Copan but have yet to do it. Your TR shows there is a whole lot more to see down there.

Re: Herman Creek TH to Pinnacles, 3/3/2024
Anybody know where snow starts going up Herman? Trail is bare as far as Casey Creek but there are a few small patches of leftover snow and ice from the January storms here and there. I was there on Wednesday this week. Here's the trail on Jan. 29th, about mile 2.2: https://donnelsen.org/wp-content/...

Re: What's Out Your Back Door
Looks like your trees are doing better than mine. About 25 years ago I planted three incense cedars along my creek to help prevent, or at least slow the bank erosion on a tight bend. So far, it's worked somewhat but I fear it's a losing battle. They were all planted with over a foot of solid ground ...
