Thanks for the pics and TR! Good info for when I get back up there in a couple of weeks.

Re: it's going to be an itchy summer
Thursday, I hiked a long loop including Devil's Rest and saw nary a mosquito. :D :D :D :D dn Well, of course - if you are slumming in the lowlands. Those of us with a hankering to get up in the alpine in the very short window when it is accessible have to fight off the little vampires, or use...

Re: Elkhorn Crest Trail
Nice photos! Thanks for TR. I need to get over there and check it out. I've driven through the area on I-84 probably 50 times over the years and never taken the time off to hike those mountains.

Re: Ape Canyon - 2022-07-27
It's odd about Mt. St. Helens and flies. I rarely run into more than one or two on a hike anywhere else, but I've often been swarmed by them on MSH trails. I hiked the Blue Lake trail and on to the Loowit trail to Ape Canyon with my daughter about 25 years ago and we had to run to get away from them...

Re: it's going to be an itchy summer
I read an article in the Skamania Co. paper yesterday that talked about this mosquito plague we are enduring. It stated that there are "nearly 10 times the number of insects that hatched in 2021". The story blames the recent flooding and the very wet spring and added that a large number of eggs that...

Re: it's going to be an itchy summer
I've had mixed results so far this year: On a few hikes, no mosquitoes at all but most hikes I've had to deal with a lot of them. On a hike near Archer Mt. five days ago I was constantly in a swarm. Even with repellent I was bit about 20 times, even through my shirt. I think my perspiration washed s...

Thanks for the report and the photos. Looks like a fun hike.
I know what you mean about washboard roads on a bike! Difficult to say the least. I've noticed that with a car, the faster you go, the better it gets but you can't go fast enough on a bike.

Re: Dry Creek Trail, 062022
Those crossings can be a challenge. But with snow mostly gone in the Trapper Creek high country, I expect the water levels will be coming down pretty quick. There's likely a good reason it's called Dry Creek but I've never been in there to take a look later in the summer. Thanks for the comment Dean.
